It was my honor and pleasure to speak at Quantum World Congress event near Washington, D.C., where TIQ’s investment director Gabe Sulkes and I led a Queensland delegation earlier this month. As many of you know, Queensland is a major player in both the origins and future of quantum computing. In April, Palo Alto-based PsiQuantum announced that it will build its first commercial-scale quantum computer in Brisbane, a deal that has enormous implications for the Queensland economy as well as the advancement of quantum science itself. ? At the QWC event, I spoke about the value of the Quantum Accord, a global collaboration launched by D.C-based Connected DMV to promote knowledge-sharing, workforce development and commercial standards for the emerging quantum industry, among other key goals. ? Quantum technology is going to revolutionize computing and has vast implications for medicine, manufacturing, cyber-security and more. It was a true privilege to hear from our BIRD grantees at the recent Quantum World Congress in Virginia. As the global community showcased the latest advances in quantum technology, our grantees shared their deep expertise and enthusiasm, underscoring the vital role of collaboration in driving innovation. Though quantum technology is still evolving, insights from the conference and our BIRD grantees suggest that major breakthroughs are just around the corner. The field is particularly well-positioned to benefit from strategic partnerships, such as those fostered by BIRD. Andrea Yonah, BIRD Director of Business Development for the U.S. East Coast and Midwest, represented BIRD as a delegate in the International Forum and also led a special session on Market Acceleration: Fostering Innovation through Collaboration, which featured two notable BIRD-funded projects: ?? BlueQubit Inc. (Los Angeles, CA) & Quantum Art Ltd. (Israel), advancing quantum machine learning algorithms and processor configuration methods. ?? QuEra Computing Inc. (Boston, MA) & Quantum Machines (Israel), jointly developing a photonic control unit (PCU) to significantly enhance quantum computing power. We extend our sincere thanks to the panelists: Elkana Ben-Sinai from Quantum Art, Hrant Gharibyan, PhD from BlueQubit, Nate Gemelke from QuEra Computing, and Yonatan Cohen from Quantum Machines. At #QWC2024, Accenture's Global Innovation Lead and Chief Software Engineer, Adam Burden, delivered a wake-up call to the quantum community: we are not ready for the quantum future. Only 7% of organizations attending the event have quantum-safe websites, and most businesses are far from prepared for the security and business implications of quantum computing. ?? "Quantum computing is here, but most of us are unprepared." Burden emphasized the need to act now, particularly when it comes to quantum security. He introduced a tool from Accenture, IsItQuantumSafe.info, which helps organizations test their websites for quantum readiness. Even more, Burden highlighted the importance of translating quantum’s economic value into business terms and shared success stories where quantum computing is already making a difference. The message is clear: businesses must take immediate steps to secure their systems and prepare for the quantum revolution. ??
