Very proud of the whole team to announce that Quantum Motion and our close partner UCL have been selected by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology and Innovate UK for the UK's #QuantumMissions pilot! We are fully aligned with the UK Quantum Missions, committed to delivering #quantumcomputers capable of large-scale commercialisation and delivered using CMOS transistor #technology. This builds on our successful work to date with National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC) and is something we are looking forward to extending with this very significant contract. Quantum Motion has partnered with the?National Physical Laboratory (NPL) and the University of Strathclyde to develop new ways to overcome the challenges of running quantum control electronics in extremely cold conditions. This UKRI EPSRC Prosperity Partnership will create advanced tools for measuring and modelling the thermal behaviour of cryogenic electronics, a critical step towards integrating these components with quantum devices. We're excited to announce that Quantum Motion and GlobalFoundries are working together to develop quantum processors based on a scalable silicon platform! Our latest result from this partnership, published in Nature Electronics, demonstrates rapid, large-scale characterisation of quantum devices fabricated using commercial semiconductor processes. We have designed a silicon chip featuring an integrated array of 1024 quantum dots on an area of less than 0.1mm2 and validated them in less than 5 minutes—at least 100 times faster than the current state of the art. James Palles-Dimmock, CEO of Quantum Motion, said, "Our work with GlobalFoundries has enabled us to demonstrate that scalable manufacturing techniques are compatible with the stringent demands of quantum computing. This achievement shows that silicon-based quantum chips can be fabricated using established semiconductor processes, bridging the gap between quantum research and industrial-scale production." ? NPL and Quantum Motion have published a study that reveals the results of testing thousands of silicon transistors at cryogenics temperatures, highlighting the important behavioural changes that need to be considered in chips targeting quantum computing applications. ???? We're at Spin Qubit 6! We have a talk on Wednesday from Lead Quantum Engineer Mark A. I. Johnson who will present Quantum Motion's effort to develop reproducible and scalable silicon spin qubits with a focus on mass characterisation. And we have a poster presentation from Quantum Theorist Christian Binder and Quantum Software Engineer Jack Turner on their novel, fast, and stable numerical approach to study electron shuttling. We've submitted a pre-print with Goldman Sachs researching how quantum computers can be used in financial services to perform complex calculations, such as options pricing. Simon Benjamin, CSO of Quantum Motion, said: “To have real impact in sectors such as finance and pharmaceuticals, which involve exploring a huge space of possibilities, and demand accuracy, quantum computers need to have a large number of qubits available at once, and all of them capable of fast operations.” In the paper, Quantum Motion presented a method in which the complex algorithms at the heart of quantum software – called oracles – can be broken down into many small tasks that run simultaneously. This increases the number of qubits that need to be operating in parallel, but correspondingly reduces the time required to run the algorithm. The improvement in runtime can be vital for applications – such as those in financial services – where the time, usually in the scale of seconds, is critical for delivering quantum advantage. “The strategy at Quantum Motion is to deliver a scalable, integrated quantum architecture capable of building systems of sizes yielding real value. The components of our quantum chips are at the same minute scale as conventional transistors, which gives the potential for vast numbers of qubits on a single chip,” said James Palles-Dimmock, CEO of Quantum Motion. “Working alongside end-users, such as Goldman Sachs, enables our researchers to understand the quantum hardware requirements, often stretching to many millions of physical qubits, that are needed to run quantum algorithms that can deliver transformative impact for business.” Read more about the research: https://lnkd.in/eAwHYT8u aiXiv: https://lnkd.in/eZhC72Hn
