A quantum computer utilizes qubits to process its calculations at lightning speeds. However, crafting specific entangled states in multi-qubit systems is challenging, as is distinguishing between different types of entanglement, until now. This week, MIT researchers have developed a technique to efficiently generate and probe both area-law and volume-law entanglement in a 16-qubit quantum processor, using superconducting circuits. By constructing the necessary infrastructure, they achieved a significant milestone: demonstrating the transition from volume-law to area-law entanglement, aligning with theoretical predictions.
