Nail care may not always take center stage in discussions about senior health, but it plays a crucial role in overall well-being. Proper nail maintenance is far more than a cosmetic concern for seniors—it’s an essential aspect of personal hygiene and health. From preventing infections to ensuring mobility, nail care can significantly impact your patient’s/resident’s quality of life. In this blog, he will explore the importance of trimming nails correctly, when to seek podiatric professional help, and tips for maintaining healthy nails. Licensed podiatrist with more than 30 years of experience in private practice and long term care facilities, President of Quality Podiatry Group

Today, on World Diabetes Day, we focus on awareness, prevention, and proactive care. Diabetes can impact your feet, but with knowledge and regular care, we can prevent and treat foot problems and help you walk confidently. Here is why diabetics should schedule visits with their podiatrist: ??Detect problems early: Podiatrists can identify foot problems like nerve damage, joint damage, and blood vessel damage. ??Prevent complications: Podiatrists can help you avoid or delay complications like ulcers and infections. ??Teach you how to care for your feet: Podiatrists can teach you how to care for your feet and what to look out for. How often you should see a podiatrist depends on your risk factors: I always recommend that patients check their feet daily for any breaks in the skin or changes.?You should be especially careful if you have neuropathy because you might not notice a small cut. Each step you take towards foot care today is a step towards a healthier tomorrow (pun intended ??) • Diabetes can have severe implications for foot health, especially for older adults in long-term care facilities. November is National Diabetes Month, a time to take a proactive approach to foot care to prevent complications, maintain quality of life, and reduce the need for resident hospitalizations. High blood sugar can damage nerves and reduce blood flow to the feet, making even minor injuries a potential risk for infection. Diligent foot care provided by the staff at nursing homes and assisted living facilities can make a difference. Quality Podiatry Group has developed a FREE GUIDE outlining essential steps to help residents prioritize foot health in long-term care facilities. This may be old news to some of you, but I am happy to share the following: "The State of Florida does not offer reciprocity as an avenue for licensure. However, if you hold a medical license in another state and have practiced medicine for at least two of the last four years, we can offer?licensure by endorsement." According to the Florida Department of Health Division of Medical Quality Assurance, the transition will occur on January 1, 2025. Here's to the New Year!
