?? Today, I had the opportunity to connect with Dr. Quinn Li, SVP and Global Head of Qualcomm Ventures. Here are some lessons I learned: As an engineering intern, I was surprised by Quinn's answer for how he evaluates companies. Cutting-edge technology is not necessarily?the most important factor. When I look at the tech landscape of the past decade, his answer makes so much sense - no one in 2010 could have remotely estimated the size of emerging markets such as generative AI. Quinn emphasized that he values enduring factors first: the founders and team ??. Second, great startups are led by experts in product ??. Quinn brought up the founder of one Qualcomm Ventures portfolio company - Eric S. Yuan (he / him / his), founder of Zoom. In 2013, web conferencing was a solved problem, and Zoom struggled to raise a Series A. While Silicon Valley saw just another video conferencing?solution, Quinn and the Qualcomm Ventures team recognized a founder with exceptional product vision. Great companies depend on visionary founders - Qualcomm itself owes its success to Irwin Jacobs. Finally, a Qualcomm Ventures investment is more than money - it represents decades of expertise?and experience in?wireless technology and?its ecosystem of partners ??. Today’s chat showed me what makes startup founders successful and deepened my appreciation for Qualcomm innovative roots and wonderful internship program. Thank you Quinn!
