If you're heading to World of Learning in London this week, keep a look out ?? for our Head of BD - Fad Jamal - and say hi ?? Check out her summary of day 1 insights below ??
Helping unlock the potential of individuals and teams through next generation learning and development and business coaching Business Development / Executive & Team Coach / Author
After an insightful first day at the World of Learning summit, key themes stood out - reinforcing the evolving role of learning & development in business success. Here goes! ?? Leadership Development in Uncertain Times Leadership training is no longer a "nice to have" - it’s essential. Yet, senior managers and department heads often don’t get the development they need. Sky is tackling this with contextual, brand-aligned learning, ensuring lessons are applied daily and supported via coaching, peer networks, and structured guidance. ?? Hybrid Learning: Beyond the LMS Hybrid learning is here to stay - but how do we ensure consistency and impact? Domino's built a 9-month manager academy blending live and on-demand training, analytics, and peer learning (inc WhatsApp chats ??) to drive performance & retention. Key takeaway? Start before you're ready - perfection isn’t necessary ?? ?? Forget Titles - Focus on Skills The talent crunch isn’t just about hiring - it’s about upskilling at speed. Businesses lose 2x salary per exit ??, while employees fear FOBO (Fear of Becoming Obsolete) - even those new to the workforce. The missing link? Skills-based learning strategies that: ? Align with business goals ? Prioritise key capabilities ? Enable self-directed growth ? Measure impact & ROI ?? The Power of Privilege Awareness Privilege is contextual and often invisible - but ignoring it is a missed opportunity. It's not just about IQ - EQ (emotional), CQ (curiosity), MQ (moral), and SQ (social intelligence) drive team success. ?? Are hiring managers trained to recognise bias & think beyond traditional success markers? How can L&D help leaders assess who gets access, who feels safe, and who thrives? Inclusive hiring & mobility start with awareness, curiosity & action. ?? Clearing the AI Blur: Leadership in the Digital Age As AI adoption accelerates, leaders must navigate the "7 Deadly Sins of AI" - from chasing shiny tech (lust) to prioritising profit over ethics (greed). The future belongs to those who prepare, adapt and use AI strategically, and enabling teams to do this is key to business success. ?? Final thought: L&D is the backbone of business success - driving growth, retention and leadership. With FOBO rising and inclusive hiring a priority, how can businesses better equip their people for the future? #LearningAndDevelopment #Leadership #AI #HybridLearning #SkillsDevelopment #InclusiveHiring

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming back Helen Tupper from Amazing If at our quarterly leadership summit. Helen guided us through a super helpful framework from Amy Edmondson - zooming in on 7 elements that make up a high trust team* and workshopping helpful frameworks to adopt, adapt and/or create as a result. We look forward to putting these ideas into practise this year as we continue to enable the teams?of today?to meet the challenges of tomorrow. * (Luckily our leadership team can be pretty proud of our baseline scores - hence the shameless post ?? ) #Shapeyourtomorrow #Trust #Daretodisagree

Last week, I ran a little experiment with the Quadmark leadership team. The challenge? Leave your phone in a tray for 3 hours. No doomscrolling. No notifications. No “just checking” messages. Sounds simple, right? But for some, it sparked real anxiety—What if my team needs me? What if there’s a family emergency? Yet, the results were eye-opening: ? More focus & deeper engagement – Conversations flowed, workshops felt more productive. ? A sense of liberation – That constant reach for a phone? Turns out, we don’t actually need it as much as we think. ? Stronger teams – Some leaders saw a surprise benefit: when they weren’t instantly available, their teams solved problems on their own. ? Better phone use – When people did check their phones, they responded with more intent instead of mindlessly scrolling. Of course, there were challenges: ? Timekeeping – Without a phone, some people didn’t know the time (a simple clock in the room helps). ?? Emergencies – We suggested tweaking settings so that urgent calls from loved ones still come through. Schools are asking kids to disconnect from phones (quite rightly) for hours, shouldn’t we as leaders, be testing what that feels like? And beyond workshops—where’s your equivalent phone tray in daily life? Would love to hear your thoughts! Have you tried something similar?
