QuackHacks 2025: A Comeback to Remember! After nine long years, QuackHacks returned stronger than ever as the University of Oregon’s flagship hackathon. From an idea to reality in just three months, our student-led event brought together an inspiring community for 24 hours of coding, learning, and creating. Hackathons like QuackHacks aren’t just competitions; they’re invention marathons where participants come together to create innovative projects, learn new skills, and collaborate in an inclusive, high-energy environment. QuackHacks is a student-led, 24-hour event designed to inspire creativity and innovation among our community. This year, we brought together a community of learners, creators, and dreamers for 24 hours of coding, learning, and building. By the Numbers: 100+ attendees 22+ submitted projects A truly regional effort, with 14.7% from Oregon State University, 5.3% from Oregon Institute of Technology, and 2.7% from Lane Community College. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of the Associated Students of the University of Oregon, the University of Oregon School of Computer and Data Sciences, who helped spread the word. Your contributions and collaboration made this dream a reality! The Projects: Our participants blew us away with their creativity and technical prowess. Here’s a glimpse of our top finalists: Team Alumo: A machine-learning-powered tool to mine professional references for job leads and connections, complete with AI-drafted outreach emails. Team Promptly Puzzled: An AI-based Pictionary game that uses generative AI to create images from quirky prompts for a fun guessing challenge. Team Beat the Odds: A machine-learning model predicting NBA game outcomes and over/under scores with impressive accuracy. Team Project: Larry: A computer vision project transforming video streams into stick-figure animations, combining tech and art to raise awareness about ethical data use. Team NavPal: A system designed to help non-native English speakers navigate U.S. airports, featuring translated maps and audio translation tools. The common theme? Groundbreaking use of machine learning and a commitment to innovation. These projects don’t just stop here—they’re the beginning of something bigger. What’s Next: This is just the start. QuackHacks is back, and it’s here to stay. With the energy and momentum from this year’s event, we’re excited for what’s to come. The innovative spirit of QuackHacks 2025 reminds us that the future is bright, and the possibilities are endless. Our team Noah Weis, John Heibel, Adam Wolfe, Jaya Munoz, and Jack Klein would like to deeply thank everyone who participated and supported our vision of QuackHacks 2025. The success of last weekend wouldn't have been possible without you! We can’t wait to see what comes next for this incredible community. Here’s to the next chapter of QuackHacks and to empowering the next generation of creators, builders, and problem-solvers!
