February could not have gone by faster for our executive board at PRSSA at NC State as we went into full-fledged planning mode for our Southeast District Conference, I ?? PR! It is with gratitude to my impressive team, the fantastic roster of professionals who donated their time to speak, and our incredible sponsors who believed in our mission that I announce the completion of our university’s first District Conference! This opportunity has taught me so much about teamwork, perseverance, and strategic planning. Our speaker sessions today taught me how to recognize my worth, build relationships, prioritize storytelling, and to ensure that I’m keeping myself busy with activities that are net-positive! Had an incredible time attending and representing ECU PRSSA at the PRSSA District Conference hosted by NC State on Thursday! ?? It was such a great opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals, learn from industry leaders, and gain insights into the evolving world of PR. One of my favorite segments was the panel discussion! I particularly enjoyed Molly Schoneveld and Quinn Novels take on owning their own businesses, as I hope to own a firm in the future! They shared details on how their experiences have shaped them to be who they are today and how it translates into their professional lives. ?? We did it! ?? Yesterday, PRSSA at NC State hosted the 2025 Southeast District Conference. After months of planning, it was so rewarding to see our hard work come to fruition. I feel lucky to be a part of such a wonderful E-board. We make a great team! Thank you to each of our speakers for sharing insights that I will certainly take with me throughout my career. Delighted to have attended the I ?? PR District conference yesterday at NC State University. I learned a lot from Mikaya T. session on Negotating a Salary. My takeaway is that negotiation is a conversation and not confrontation, so one should not be too pragmatic or fearful to indulge it especially when taking a new role. I’d struggled with negotiating in the past, so I needed that. Alex Podlogar keynote’s address reminded of the value of PR and the power of storytelling. Oftentimes, we don’t know what content will go viral, so we need to be consistent and creative with our output. Moreso, in PR, one needs to know that there are “There are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.” So keep showing up. I was particularly challenged when Quinn Novels advised that one needs to stay curious and keep learning especially in this profession which requires that we deal with multisectoral clients. I was inspired by Megan vanVollenhoven keynote delivery on securing a dream internship. It is not enough to desire to work at a dream company, one needs to be deliberate about building skills, networking the right way and applying for opportunities. I hope to put to good practice insights that I garnered from all the speakers. What an incredible day! After months and months of planning, our Southeast District Conference, I ?? PR, was a huge success. I could not be more proud of the PRSSA at NC State exec board for all the work we put in to make this event happen. Of course, we never could have done it without Alicia Caracciolo and the help she provided from the national branch of Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). And, a huge thank you to Kalyca Lynn Becktel, Ph.D., APR, APIO for being the biggest supporter we never had to ask for! What started as just a small idea last summer became nearly a year-long project, and I’m thrilled with how successful it was. The exec board and I came up with the conference theme at our first board meeting in early August when brainstorming our favorite aspects of the communication industry. Every idea boiled down to one central theme: we’re PR professionals because we love what we do. We wanted to create an event that personified that sentiment, and I can confidently say we accomplished that goal. I knew it before, but yesterday reaffirmed the fact that I ?? PR! Putting this together was a team effort, and I’m so grateful to our incredible sponsors for their generous support. Whether you donated money, swag items or helped connect us with other professionals, your efforts meant the world. What a journey it has been! Over the past 13 months, I’ve had the privilege of being part of the TRANSFORM VC community as a senior fellow - an experience that provided a soft landing after stepping away from the corporate world. This past year has been filled with life lessons, deep connections, and opportunities to grow in ways I never could have imagined. From emceeing TVC's first Annual General Meeting in 2023 to moderating the Fellowship Panel at the 2024 AGM, I’ve had the honor of amplifying the voices of some of the most intelligent and driven people I’ve ever met. The energy, passion, and dedication of the TVC fellows is nothing short of inspiring. To the fellows I’ve met along the way - you are the heartbeat of this experience. I am forever grateful for the friendships we’ve built and can’t wait to reconnect around the world in the years to come. Thank you for accepting me - all of me - and for the memories, lessons, and laughter we’ve shared. As I turn the page to focus on my own business, I carry with me the lessons I’ve learned: ?
