Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women and Earthna co-hosted a panel discussion exploring Ramadan, sustainability, and the role of Muslim women, with a focus on ethical practices, mindful consumption, and waste management during the holy month. The session, moderated by Jawaher Al-Shamari, a lecturer at Qatar University, featured Fatma Ali Al-Khater, social entrepreneur and founder of Torba Market , Dr. Dhabia Al-Mohannadi, assistant Professor at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s College of Science and Engineering; and Ruba Hinnawi, technical lead at Earthna. Ruba Hinnawi highlighted the significance of mindful consumption and waste management in Ramadan, drawing on Islamic teachings to underscore their role in promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship, and offering insights on integrating ethical practices into daily life. ??? ???? ????? Earthna and Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women invite you to the panel discussion on “Ramadan, Sustainability, and Muslim Women: Fostering Ethical and Eco-Friendly Practices,” hosted at Al-Mujadilah Center & Mosque for Women on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM. This event will kick off the Women in Sustainability Series, an initiative celebrating women's leadership in environmental sustainability and empowering more women to engage in the field. The series will feature events focused on different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with partner organizations shaping discussions and activities. This panel will explore the intersection of sustainability, Islamic teachings, and the leadership role of Muslim women in promoting environmental stewardship. With a focus on SDG 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production, the discussion will bring together key voices to address pressing issues such as food waste and ethical consumption during Ramadan. Qatar Sustainability Week 2024 had record participation with over 300 organizations, delivering more than 500 impactful events and reaching over one million people across the community. Co-organized by Earthna and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, this annual initiative underscored Qatar's strong dedication to sustainability. The diverse activities — including community gardening, beach cleanups, seminars, recycling programs, sporting events and much more — demonstrated a united effort towards building a greener future.
