Today marks our annual Joey Joy Flight! For nearly 50 years, Qantas Pathfinders, Rotary, and our incredible crew have come together to make this special event a reality. Almost 300 children boarded our Airbus A330 for a 90-minute joy ride flight around the Sydney, Newcastle & Wollongong areas, alongside some gate activity at Sydney Airport with face painters, clown doctors, Matilda the Kangaroo, and a special visit from Santa Claus himself! A special thanks to Paralympian silver medalist Jamieson Leeson who joined us on the day.

“I started my journey with Qantas nearly 22 years ago at?Los Angeles International Airport. As an Airport Duty Manager, I’m involved in everything that has to do with getting our customers smoothly in and out of LAX. Each day brings a new face, even if just for a moment, it feels good knowing I can make their experience easier and more memorable travelling with us. I am proud to play a role in Qantas’ unmatched safety record, I feel so lucky to be able to do what I do.? ? I’ve had a few pinch-me moments during my time, one I’ll never forget was the day we welcomed the very first A380 passenger aircraft to LAX. Watching it land and being the one to attach that upper deck bridge was an unforgettable experience, I also got to walk the red carpet and feel like a real celebrity. I was lucky to be invited on the celebratory flight across California hosted by John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John both rocking our Qantas uniform-talk about surreal! ? Working for Qantas feels like being part of a big family. I’ve worn many hats and worked with many teams throughout my 22 years but one thing that remains true is the loyalty and dedication of our QF teams, my job wouldn’t be the same without the camaraderie of our LAX crew! I take pride in mentoring the next generation of Qantas team members and helping them grow as others have done for me while instilling in them the same passion that’s kept me here.” ? -Margita, LAX Airport Duty Manager

This November marks the 80th anniversary of the loss of Pilot Officer Ross McMaster, the son of Qantas co-founder Sir Fergus McMaster. Growing up in western Queensland during Qantas' early days, Ross was inspired by the spirit of aviation that surrounded him. He joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1942 where he trained to fly in Tiger Moth biplanes?at Narrandera?before joining 460 Squadron RAAF in Britain in late 1944.?? ?? On November 21, 1944, just weeks after joining, Ross embarked on an operation to attack Aschaffenburg. Tragically, at just 20 years old, his Lancaster was shot down, resulting in the loss of all seven crew members.?? ?? Today, on Remembrance Day, we honour Ross and all those who served to protect our nation. We will remember them. Lest we forget.? ? Photo credit: Australian War Memorial
