A modular home builder came to us with a challenge: They needed to lift floors and walls for their modular homes, but couldn’t afford to lose valuable production space due to extra columns, runways, or footers in their leased facility. They needed a crane system that: ? Didn’t add additional support columns or runways that would interfere with their production area ? Avoided footers since they are in a leased building ? Could be transported if they changed buildings Our solution? Motorized Gantry Cranes. These types of cranes run on a single-side floor track which was placed strategically to avoid walkways so they could keep production flowing. With six gantry cranes in one bay, they can now move materials efficiently – without runways or extra columns in the way. It’s not all shiny new products…. When we were starting out in this industry a few decades ago, I was naive. I never realized how big of a deal a “service department” would be. Sure, I figured we had to fix a few broken things every now and then, but had no idea we would need an entire team just to focus on parts, service, inspections, and tech support for our customers. This week, we had a customer call our Service Team, where we had to take a 1990s Yale Hoist out of service due to some main gears being stripped out after a long life in a casting plant. Our parts department scrambled to try to find parts that were available, but had no success. This customer’s production is down, so we grabbed a new hoist off the shelf, are making some gauge modifications as we speak, and should have this casting manufacturer up and running sometime tomorrow again. Production & down-time really matter. We get it because we’re manufacturers here at PWI as well…. #service #downtime #overheadcranes

How do you build a chiller room when your current building can't support it? A local food manufacturer needed to add a climate-controlled chiller room for a new product line, but they ran into a major hurdle: their existing facility couldn’t support the insulated walls required for the space. That's where we came in! ? Custom Superstructure – Think of a Superstructure as a mezzanine without a floor or guardrails. It was built with its own foundation to support insulated walls and ceilings, as well as glycol piping. ? Strategic Mezzanine – Positioned inside the Superstructure but outside the cold area, providing much-needed storage space for production. ? Refrigeration Support – We installed steel tubes through the roof for another company to mount refrigeration units. ? The Challenge? We had a strict deadline, and unforeseen obstructions made installation tricky. Our crew worked nights and weekends, adapting on-site to overcome these obstructions and keep the project on track.
