Photovoltaic Thermal for Europe PVT4EU is a CETPartnership project that aims to develop two innovative PVT collectors that could be an efficient and cost-effective solution for domestic heating and cooling demand and low to medium-temperature industrial processes (20℃-140℃). The Project Consortium comprises six partners from Sweden, Denmark, and Portugal who will develop, and test high-efficiency and cost-effective Renewable Energy Technologies based on hybrid PVT solar collectors. This project has received funding from CETPartnership Program under grant agreement No.Cetp-2022-00403.

Within WP4 – PVT4EU technologies conceptualization, testing and validation, DTU - Technical University of Denmark investigates winter operation challenges to optimize system performance and reliability. ? Using PVT collectors as a heat source for heat pumps in space heating systems comes with multiple benefits. These include reduced noise pollution and the synergetic effects of combining electrical and thermal production in a single panel. ?? However, a key challenge in winter operation is that the heat transfer fluid in PVT panels can drop below zero during cold periods. When combined with snowfall, this can lead to snow accumulation on the panels for longer durations, reducing both thermal and electrical performance. ??Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our journey toward innovation and excellence! ???     International Energy Agency (IEA) SHC Task 73: Advancing Photovoltaic - Thermal (PVT) Innovation The official kickoff of IEA SHC Task 73 in Berlin marked a significant step forward for the PVT community, bringing together experts to drive the development and market adoption of Photovoltaic-Thermal technology. Key takeaways from the kickoff meeting: ? Stakeholder-driven KPIs: Defining performance indicators that align with the needs of policymakers, investors, and end users is crucial for accelerating adoption. ?     ?? Exciting progress on WP2! ?? We’re happy to share a key milestone from our work on PVT4EU! Within work package (WP) 2, we have successfully delivered D2.1: Report on PV cell technologies assessment for PVT4EU concentrating technologies. ??What’s inside?? This report provides a comprehensive evaluation of photovoltaic (PV) cell technologies to identify the most suitable options for concentrating photovoltaic-thermal (C-PVT) applications. Our focus has been on the Double MaReCo (DM) collector, which represents the first version (V1) of PVT-MG. ??Key highlights:? ?In-depth assessment of various PV cell technologies for C-PVT integration? ?Analysis of the evolution of PV cell technologies across different generations? ?Establishing a foundation for further optimization and modeling This work directly contributes to our next step: D2.2a: Optimized PV cells/modules (c-Si) for PVT prototypes fabrication.     ?? Thrilled to share that our colleague Damu Murali recently concluded a two-month association with the Solar Group at the DTU - Technical University of Denmark as a Guest Researcher. ?? Within the #PVT4EU project, Damu collaborated with Simon Furbo and Mark Dannemand on the experimental testing of SolarPeak collectors (PVT-SP), focusing on low-temperature performance analysis in challenging conditions like condensation and frost. This work is key to optimising Photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) technologies for Nordic climates, enabling efficient use of solar energy. ?? During his stay, Damu also explored DTU’s cutting-edge facilities, contributing to advanced PVT research and strengthening the collaboration between the University of G?vle and DTU - Technical University of Denmark. He was also able to initiate collaboration with other groups working on thermal energy storage and concentrated solar power—addressing shared Nordic energy challenges.
