关于我们
PVpallet’s mission is to promote a circular economy within the solar industry. We are doing this by creating innovative shipping and packaging solutions that reduce waste, promote reusability, and improve lifecycle economics. Our signature product, PVpallet Series X, is a pallet designed specifically for solar modules that is made of recycled HDPE plastic, reusable, and recyclable at the end of its life cycle. We also offer bulk bins, handheld totes, and standard-sized reusable pallets—all made from post-industrial plastic. We're taking waste and making it useful while also increasing efficiency throughout the entire solar supply chain.

Today’s employee spotlight is a special one for me in the sense that it was a weird, serendipitous turn of events that connected me to someone who has made a huge impact on PVpallet. I met Chad Hill at a gas station—not exactly your typical networking venue. In June 2022, I was on my way back to St. Louis after attending #ENTREfest (shout out to ISA Ventures, our VC partner who has supported us since the beginning!) I stopped in Iowa to fill up on gas. When I restarted my car, all I heard was a series of dreadful clicks. My battery was dead. I stopped several passersby to try to jump my car. No luck. Then Chad tapped on my window and said, “Do you need some help? I used to own an auto shop. I can take a look.” He searched the engine compartment for issues, checked wiring connections, cleaned a bit of corrosion off of my terminals. He crawled under the car, in the car, over the car for over an hour. Finally, he concluded that I either needed a new battery or it had to be towed to a shop for a full diagnostic. He offered to drive me to Auto Zone to get a new battery (a solid 20 minutes away). On the way, I learned that Chad was a plant manager at a nearby canning facility. He ran operations, heavy manufacturing machinery, and a large team of employees. He was also an entrepreneur, owning automotive and insurance companies in the past. I learned about his passion for his family and how he loves to boat and golf with his sons. But most importantly, I learned about his character—that he was a caring, passionate, and dedicated person that has big dreams and even bigger conviction for his personal values. I did not yet have a position for Chad, but we exchanged contact info. I said, “I don’t know when, but someday you’ll be hearing from me.” This complete stranger had just spent over two hours helping me, expecting nothing in return. If that doesn’t give you a window into someone’s soul, I don’t know what does. Six months later, we needed a capable, experienced warehouse operations manager in our Iowa facility. I knew exactly who to call. Chad and I quickly picked up where we left off and soon he was diving right in and joining our crazy mission. He has led the charge on assembly efficiencies and cost reductions. He is building a great team and culture in our warehouse. And he is a firm believer in our mission of waste reduction—he’s implemented recycling programs in the warehouse, eliminated unnecessary shrink wrap and wood pallets from our vendors’ inbound shipments, and devised some seriously genius innovations to our product line. He’s played a critical role in our success and will continue to do so as we grow. I never thought I’d be grateful to have my car die. But you never know how a seemingly unfortunate event can shift the tides of the future. And in case you were wondering, it was a damned rodent that chewed through my battery and caused it to die, so Chad was spot on about replacing the battery (no surprise there)!

Help us transform the solar industry! We started PVpallet because we were tired of seeing all the packaging waste the solar industry was creating. We felt like a green industry like solar should have packaging that shared their values—reusable, sustainable packaging. We could see that there was a huge opportunity in the market, so we set out to create packaging that aligned with our personal vision for a greener future. Help us green up solar. Our team is one of my favorite things about PVpallet. I’m extremely proud of the team we’ve built—it’s a phenomenal group of people. We work hard to push the limits and come up with the right solution for our customers and the industry as a whole. We complement each other very well, have a great time together, and are committed to our mission. We’re also making a positive impact. What we’re doing has direct, tangible, quantifiable results. And as cheesy as it may sound, it really feels like we’re making the world a better place. So over the next few weeks, I’m going to be highlighting our people so YOU can know them, too. Today, I want to express my immense gratitude to Jeff Mitchell for his valuable contributions to the PVpallet team. They say timing is everything and, with Jeff, that was certainly the case. One of my goals for 2024 was to find a COO that could not just fill an open role on the team, but one that could truly take our company to the next level. Jeff and I connected several years ago when he was the CEO of a leading reusable packaging company, and we valued his insights enough to invite him to be on our advisory board. Earlier this year, changes at his previous company unexpectedly made Jeff a “free agent,” and I jumped at the opportunity to bring him onto our team—first as a consultant. Then in August, he joined us full time as COO. Talk about an immediate impact. In short order, Jeff has led the charge in bringing our new modular flat pallet to the finish line (stay tuned—I’m super excited about this pallet!), guided the buildout of our new e-commerce site to simplify our sales process for our customers, and forged new partnerships in the reusable packaging industry to grow our product line so we can legitimately meet the needs of not just module suppliers, but the entire solar industry. Despite his immense experience of 25+ years in the packaging and plastics industry, he has joined our team with a distinctly humble, yet hungry, demeanor. He exemplifies a servant leader approach, but also is one of the first to crack jokes and bring the fun into our team meetings. And most importantly, he lets me play ‘Africa’ by Toto at every company meeting despite his hatred for the song (I think he started wearing earplugs). In just a few short months, Jeff has led the charge in making immediate, positive changes to our company’s operations, and I cannot wait to see what magic he can make happen in the coming years while we hit the throttle on PVpallet’s growth! Thank you for taking a chance on us, Jeff Mitchell! #team #solar #renewables #packaging #innovation

“In addition to being a more sustainable choice, the recyclable PVpallet is a safer packaging option for both the panels and the humans moving them.” Solar Power World dives into the common issues faced when shipping, handling, and storing solar panels—and highlights PVpallet as a solution. Philip Alex Schwarz points out, "We typically see about 1 to 2% breakage at each stage of the supply chain." While that might seem small, it actually translates to millions of dollars in broken panels annually, just in the US (billions of dollars globally). And these losses could be prevented. The traditional approach of shipping solar panels on wooden pallets and plastic wrap just doesn't cut it, leading to problems like forklift damage, falling panels, and exposure to the elements. This inefficiency is costing the industry billions in breakage and disposal fees. Naturally, there's a big push for stricter testing and better handling standards to protect these valuable assets and keep costs down. Here are some other highlights from the article: ?? Traditional Packaging Hurdles: Using wooden pallets and plastic wrap isn't enough to ensure safe and secure solar panel transport. ??? Weather and Contaminants: There's a real need for stronger protective measures during storage and handling to combat weather conditions and risks from contaminants. ?? Teamwork and Innovation: Manufacturers and suppliers need to team up to create sustainable packaging solutions and cut down on waste in the solar industry. ?? Sustainable Solutions: The PVpallet offers a promising solution for safely transporting and storing solar panels while also being eco-friendly.
