With skatepark sizes trending upwards ?? over the past 15 years, many of our projects now exceed the old 10k square foot benchmark that community's would target. So, designing this 6,000-square-foot park was a fun challenge that certainly brought out our creative side to ... -> Create a layout that "Flows" -> Find the ideal balance between street and transition elements -> Incorporate most of the key features from the skater “wish list” -> Carefully minimize the park’s impact on nearby amenities -> Discreetly add some bonus elements for added fun As with many things in life, true greatness isn’t always about size. In the running for a new project and need to submit a sample concept that adhere's to the following criteria: 1. Core user group: Surf ?? / Skate ?? 2. Secondary user group: All wheels (?? / ??) w/o motors 2. Functions like a pump track ???? 3. Incorporates a half-pipe ???? 4. Occupies no more than 5,000 square feet ?????? Its a tall order for a small space but feeling like we may have pulled a rabbit out of the proverbial hat on this one. Teamed with a partner agency to throw our collective "hats-in-the-ring" for a big overseas project that we had aptly named "Paradise Found". With multiple teams submitting & our scope only being a small part of the larger project we had no idea which way the pendulum would swing ... The team now calls this project "Paradise Lost" ????♂? . For PUSHparks, Inc it isn't & wasn't about the revenue, its about the project. To bring a project of this scale to life & the impact it would have on those in the community is what we actually lost. Our good friends at Surf Park Central are always digging deeper when it comes to what makes a "Surf Park" successful. While we are not surprised by the below results its good to know there is a team like SPC putting in the time to bring this information to the masses ???? The challenge faced by "Surf Parks" is not getting consumers to the site, it’s retaining them once there. “Wheel-Friendly" facilities support retention & in turn drive both direct and in-direct monetization opportunity’s that are must captures for both developers & operators alike. Another big step forward for our friends at the Virgin Islands Surfing Federation (VISF) down in St. Thomas ???? Have said it before & will say it again, this project is a case study in how a private / public partnership should function. Truly a "high-tide raises all boats" situation with the big winner being the community ???? ???? The local skate scene in St. Thomas has some amazing champions that have done A LOT with A LITTLE.
