Women’s History Month: They Told Us No. We Said Watch Us. I remember the moment vividly. I had just earned my doctorate—a feat accomplished while working full-time and raising two babies. I was exhausted. I was proud. And then my boss looked at me and said, “Don’t put that on your business card. Nobody wants to see that.” Nobody wants to see that. The message was clear: Dim your light. Stay small. Don’t make others uncomfortable with your ambition. So, I did the only logical thing. I quit. I started my own consulting company. And I never looked back. Because here’s the truth: Women have been told no for centuries. No, you can’t vote. No, you can’t own property. No, you can’t open a bank account without your husband’s permission. No, you don’t belong in the boardroom. No, you’re too emotional. No, you’re not enough. Or worse—you’re too much. And yet, we keep going. ?? Rosa Parks was told to move. She stayed seated. ?? Madam C.J. Walker was told a black woman couldn’t build a business empire. She became the first female self-made millionaire in America. ?? Katharine Graham was told she couldn’t lead The Washington Post. She did anyway—and took down a corrupt president in the process. ??
