EdTech to empower the next generation of culturally grounded, community serving tech makers + problem solvers
关于我们
Purple Mai?a Foundation is a 501(c)(3) technology education nonprofit. We teach coding and computer science through after-school or elective classes to Native Hawaiian students, low-income youth, and others who are underrepresented in tech. As we increase access to tech education and increase students’ earning potential, we also ground students to tech education that their ancestors were indigenous innovators who used their skills and perspective to serve their communities and lands. We support Hawaiian values in contemporary tech culture, and we think that by learning to innovate as indigenous technologies, we can be part of a global shift toward growing more sustainable and just societies.

Its that time again where we get to share the incredible nonprofits that were a part of Mālama Design Studio, Cohort 2, as part of our mission to empower Native Hawaiian organizations. These orgs gained access to web, design, and social media support, allowing them to build strong, sustainable foundations beyond their current capacity. Mahalo to these inspiring nonprofits for their dedication to our community. Heading to the island of Maui and head to ??Lahaina Community Land Trust in Lahaina. @lahainacommunitylandtrust works to keep Lahaina’s land in local hands, preventing outside developers from taking over. After the 2023 wildfires, they began buying land to preserve it for local families, protect cultural sites, and keep housing affordable. Their first big move was securing a property on Lokia Street, which will be used for community housing and conservation. Check out our ?? link in bio for more info about their incredible work! ???? TECH THROUGH TIME ?? Ea-volution ?? From mahi?ai and ulana lauhala to kumu and developers, every role our people have held has been a piece of our story. ?? As tech shifts away from ?āina, Purple Mai?a is here to keep that connection alive, grounded in ?ike of those who came before us. Our kupuna paved the way for us—construction workers, kumu, mahi?ai, and lawai?a, all vital to our community. Now, there are even more paths forward for Hawai?i, and ?āina-centered tech is real and ready for our next innovators. Let’s honor our kupuna by creating tech that serves our land and our people. ?????? ?? This Halloween, we’re reflecting on the legacy of our kupuna, those who lived in harmony with ?āina and shaped the future we walk today. Curious about how we bring ?āina into modern tech? Follow us on social media and check out our website to support the movement! ??????
