In August, Pure Lithium and E3 agreed to jointly develop a lithium metal battery pilot plant and complete an economic assessment of a commercial lithium metal battery facility in Alberta using Pure Lithium’s patented vertically integrated Brine to Battery? technology and E3’s lithium concentrate. “The U.S. is facing an existential crisis, and that is the extinction of the U.S. automotive industry,” Pure Lithium Co-Founder and CEO Emilie Bodoin said at The Battery Show in Detroit. “But unlike the dinosaurs, we can see this comet coming.” Bodoin said the U.S. is in a battery supply chain “cold war” with China, and the only solution is to develop new chemistries and technologies to address the imbalance, Tech Briefs reported, citing her comments at the event. Pure Lithium’s lithium metal-vanadium battery can be produced with materials that are entirely sourced in North America and uses no cobalt, nickel manganese. It also doesn’t require graphite, 77% of which is produced in China. The report explained how Pure Lithium makes lithium metal through electrodeposition, avoiding the cost and quality issues that have so far prevented the material’s widespread use in batteries. The company has already secured enough material to power 50 million EVs, Bodoin said. We are very pleased to see all the press recognition of our purchase of Dimien Inc.’s assets and how it will help advance Pure Lithium’s efforts to fully commercialize our lithium metal-vanadium (LVO) battery. Pure Lithium on Tuesday announced the acquisition of all the assets, including intellectual property, of Dimien Inc., a vanadium cathode materials company based in Buffalo. Mining Technology, MINING.com, Batteries News, Batteryjuniors.com, VentureCapital.com Daily News and Green Car Congress reported on the purchase and the important technology and know-how we gain. Pure Lithium’s lithium metal-vanadium (LVO) battery can potentially reduce U.S. reliance on China?for current battery materials, Mining Technology’s Smuthri Nadig wrote. She noted that the U.S. remains “dangerously dependent” on China for its EV batteries, citing recent warnings by U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. All the materials for Pure Lithium’s battery, including lithium brines and vanadium are readily available in North America, eliminating the need for international supply chains. ? Mining.com reported on Pure Lithium and Dimien technologies will work together to disrupt the battery market, citing Dimien founder and CEO @Brian Schultz, who joins Pure Lithium as vice president of business development and technology. “We have a lithium metal electrode production technology that dramatically reduces costs, and together with our LVO battery technology, we will bring to market a next-generation battery that is superior to lithium-ion in performance and safety,” said Pure Lithium Founder and CEO Emilie Bodoin.
