?? Today is the #GreatAmericanSmokeout, a day that the American Cancer Society has hosted on the third Thursday of November for almost 50 years. The Great American Smokeout is an opportunity for people who smoke to commit to healthy, smoke-free lives. While combustible cigarettes have a proven risk of cancers and other diseases, less is known about the health effects of vaping and e-cigarette use. Two Purdue University School of Health Sciences researchers, Thivanka Muthumalage and Jonathan Shannahan, are investigating these vaping and e-cigarette technologies to explore the health effects in both the lungs and the mouth. Since 2019, Purdue University Department of Psychological Sciences graduate students have earned six major awards at the renowned Psychonomic Society’s annual meeting. The 2024 event is marked for Nov. 21-24 in New York City and is expected to draw about 2,700 psychology students, researchers and professionals.
