A recent Consumer Food Insights (CFI) report by Purdue University's Center for Food Demand Analysis and Sustainability, in partnership with DIAL Ventures, explores how education and awareness impacts food choices and sustainability. After surveying over 1,200 American adults, the study revealed that taste and affordability remain top priorities for all education levels, while higher education correlates with a greater focus on nutrition. The findings also highlight that 71% of consumers have limited familiarity with regenerative agriculture, and support for these practices drops when consumers bear the cost. Additionally, food insecurity affects 31% of individuals without a college education. #PurdueAg researchers are targeting economic development in rural areas with funding from USDA Rural Development. The new Institute for Food Product Innovation and Commercialization is a joint effort between Purdue Food Science and Purdue University Agricultural Economics.

Purdue Applied Research Institute LLC recently hosted Orano USA executives to explore collaboration on Project Ike, a uranium enrichment megaproject planned in Tennessee named in honor of President Dwight Eisenhower for his contributions to nuclear science. Led by PIIL Project Director Amit Varma, the team showcased advanced civil and structural engineering capabilities crucial for nuclear infrastructure, including thermal and mechanical testing and seismic resilience assessments. A 2023 World Business Council for Sustainable Development report found that growers who shift from “conventional” farming to regenerative agriculture systems should see an eventual ROI of roughly 15-25%. The issue preventing many producers from adopting this green farming approach, though, is they require both financial and logistical support to make the switch, including from other AgriFood value chain members.
