The best part of entrepreneurship is the freedom of not having a boss. Eh... not really. Actually, the transition to becoming my own boss has been painful but healing. You see, I began my professional career in a budding tech operations role. I took pride in being thrown into the unknown and trusting my learning ability to propel me forward. Sure, I enjoyed a lot of early-career autonomy, but I didn't consider the cost of organizational instability. From one startup to another, I never ended up having a manager for more than a year. One stint had me cycle through 4 managers in less than 2 years. Yikes! I get it. It's hard for small businesses to weather the winds that inevitably blow. They're hardly able to stay their course. How could you expect them to lay a clear foundation for growth? But the instability also took a toll on me. I've had to quickly grow into a relentless self-starter, which I credit with giving me the tenacity to get Pungo Insights off the ground. Unfortunately, I've also seen myself hold back Pungo. I fought the idea of expanding the team for longer than I should have. How could I trust others with my own business when I didn't feel committed to and empowered enough in prior roles? Well, living by reciprocity doesn't help me dream bigger. It'll simply perpetuate imposing the same limits I've faced in my relationships with others. It's not always going to be the right fit, but the best part of being in my shoes now is that I get to practice taking chances on people. So far, I've been thoroughly impressed and I'm proud to see Pungo take on life beyond my own hands. Watch out, network! We're just getting started.

Brainforge AI | Data-Driven and AI-Enabled Growth | Learnings from building 10x data functions for 20+ brands

Here's what Amplitude's VP of Product ibrahim bashir says about successful product analytics deployments. Amplitude started off appealing to the data-savvy, technical PM persona who is keen on testing the impact of new engineering features, but the greater trend that's been pushing the product analytics space forward lies in Marketing seeing their websites and content as product. At Pungo Insights, we've noticed that one of our champions within a team is actually a Head of Brand or Digital Marketing who's intent on building a strong data story to define ICPs and figure out who their highest-value customers are. Now onto the takeaways from Ibrahim's interview: 1. ???CREATE A UNIVERSAL LEVEL OF ABSTRACTION ?? Event data is a unique data form that's universally understood. At a minimum, it has an action name, time stamp, and one descriptive property... like a user id. There's nothing better for capturing a stream of user behavior. ?? It creates a single layer of abstraction across digital products that normalizes data from various sources, such as web, mobile, and IoT devices. Event data breaks down information gatekeeping across teams. 2. ?? FOCUS ON THE CORE FLYWHEEL ?? Many teams don't know where to start in their tracking, so they track everything they can think of or nothing at all. As with any kind of analytics, data collection is just the first step. ?? Focus on measuring the core user flywheel that everyone subconsciously understands but doesn't actually see how to measure. 3. ?? MAKE THE ROLLOUT FRICTIONLESS ?? Building reports and dashboards become nice-looking "shelfware" that is never touched if there isn't a culture for regular data reviews. ?? Only an internal change agent can advocate for metrics review cycles, data-driven roadmap planning, and other rituals that invite colleagues to bring their intuition AND insights to the discussion table. Data teams must be ready to provide extensive support and education in the last mile of seeing tools adopted.

One of the best decisions I have made in my career so far was starting off my journey in the tech/start up world within the operations org. Straight out of college I ended up working at Flexport as a Data Operations Associate, and the skills I picked up during that time are instrumental to how I still operate day to day (fun fact: it was also where I befriended Robert Tseng since we were coworkers). One specific thing from that time that has continued to stick with me to this day was learning how to make SOPs and in turn prioritizing time to document and record processes. That's the reason that I am a huge fan of the wireframing first approach to event data design that we do here at Pungo Insights! If you're curious about why I'm such a strong advocate for proper product analytics and intentional event data design, reach out! I answer all my DMs! #eventdata #dataoperations #productanalytics #SOPs #dataanalytics

An absolutely incredible breakdown about Product Analytics and its importance. "We're living in a world where product analytics is a?Wild West?of metrics and tools. Every company is reinventing the wheel, creating their own bespoke analytics solutions. This leads to a lack of standardization, making it impossible to compare apples to apples." It's a long read, but if you want to understand why all Product and Technology leaders need Product Analytics. YOU absolutely need to read this. Robert Tseng and I constantly champion standardizing metrics and making sure to focus on driving business outcomes with your analytics at Pungo Insights.

Your customers don't know what AI can do for them... and they're feeling the FOMO. As a services provider, my team at Pungo Insights is positioned to be what I call an "advancement translator." - Can you leverage AI to optimize our processes? - Can you build a chatbot for us to ask questions of the data directly? - Can you create an AI agent that operates securely on a private blockchain network only accessible via the metaverse? I'm kidding about the third question. That would seriously make my day ??. But let's keep it real. I don't see AI as one of our current core competencies, though who really does at this point? And does it matter? ?? I've observed many in-house teams outsourcing innovative ideas and implementation to contracted talent and advisors. Why? Because they've got their hands trying to apply the lessons of yesterday in their work today. Many aren't ready to dive into new tech when they can't even make the old tech work yet. It's dawned on me that this is the true challenge and joy of running an agency. You start off helping lagging teams catch up to industry standards and you extend your contracts by figuring out how to embed the latest and greatest tech into your offerings. Put another way, we're here to help our clients learn about and adopt appropriate tech and process as fast as possible. Inevitably, we have to keep learning and stay ahead of the curve, rather than just copying the level of work that incumbents are putting out in the short-term. To all the innovators out there, I salute you on this journey together!

Brainforge AI | Data-Driven and AI-Enabled Growth | Learnings from building 10x data functions for 20+ brands

At the start of 2024, I had Pungo embrace an identity we avoided for so long. --- Even before putting it in writing, we were already on our way to becoming the go-to partner for data excellence powering disruptors in "boring" industries. What do I mean by "boring?" I'm talking about operationally complex, mature sectors that, if you explained the nuances to the average person, there's a good chance you'd be met with a blank stare. No offense intended! I don't actually find them boring; I see immense opportunity. Industries like utilities, manufacturing, and logistics are the backbone of our economy… and comprise the largest share of Pungo's portfolio. As I've reflected on why this unexpected match has worked for us, it boils down to our three distinct advantages: - Data Quality: Garbage in, garbage out. We get involved early by 1) laying out a master tracking plan to map out all data dependencies in a single source of truth and 2) setting up data capture with robust validation/testing practices. - Historical Trends: "Boring" industries are sitting on heaps of data to identify historical market movements, seasonality patterns, and other fascinating trends. Clients win big when we can quickly provide data-backed insights to demonstrate domain expertise. - Semantic Clarity: Decades of industry jargon can hinder data literacy within teams, as unintuitive terms are adopted without context. We push for modern data practices that emphasize clear and consistent language to bridge this gap. --- There you have it! If you know of any team with a data bottleneck in a "boring" industry, send them our way. Pungo launches your event tracking, data management, and customer insights function to transform data into a growth multiplier. Stay tuned for more insights on how we're applying analytics for disruptors in operationally complex, mature industries. #dataquality #datamanagement #manufacturing #logistics #utilities
