This week, Purdue Veterinary Hospitals and the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory join the global effort to recognize World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week. Animals, including pets and livestock, can carry germs that contribute to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which can impact both animal and human health. To help combat AMR: - Pet owners, remember to wash your hands after caring for your animals. - Keep up with your pet’s vaccinations, deworming, and flea/tick prevention. - Talk to your vet about using antibiotics and antifungals only when necessary. Veterinarians play a key role in guiding animal owners and producers on appropriate prescribing and infection prevention to protect animals, people, and our food supply. By working together, we can help slow the spread of antimicrobial resistance. Discover how Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine is advancing efforts to tackle this critical challenge. purdue.vet/onehealth-amr #AMR #AMRWeek #WAAW #OneHealth #WorldAntimicrobialResistanceWeek #AntimicrobialResistance #GlobalHealth #PurdueVetMed

关于我们
The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is one of only 30 veterinary schools in the United States and the only veterinary college in Indiana. Since the graduation of its first class of DVMs in 1963, the college has produced more than 3,000 veterinarians who now practice in all 50 states and fill important roles in government, industry and academia. The forerunner to the College was the Veterinary Science Department in the College of Agriculture, and the original structure that housed that department has been preserved and modernized and now houses one of the College's three academic departments, the Department of Comparative Pathobiology. The other two departments, Basic Medical Sciences and Veterinary Clinical Sciences, and the College's Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) are located in Lynn Hall, which was completed in 1960 and expanded as part of a major addition in 1995. Adjacent to Lynn Hall is the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, which provides vital diagnostic services to veterinarians and animal owners. In 2000, a sculpture, "Continuum" by Larry Anderson, depicting the human-animal bond and the role of veterinary medicine, was installed and dedicated in front of the College. Educational opportunities at the College are not limited to students seeking DVM degrees. The College also offers associate and bachelor's degrees in veterinary technology, as well as graduate and post graduate programs within its three academic departments. The Veterinary Technology Program was begun in 1975 and has graduated more than 900 veterinary technicians (AS-VT degree) and more than 250 veterinary technologists (BS-VT degree). Given Purdue University's standing as a major research university, the research roles of the Purdue Veterinary Medicine faculty bring innovative solutions to current and future problems in animal and human health.
