Our new report “Let’s Talk: Rebuilding Young Adults’ Trust in Government through Authentic Communications” investigates what is driving low trust in the federal government among young adults (ages 18-34) and how can this issue be addressed. Low trust not only impedes the government's ability to meet young adults' needs, a critical aspect of governance, but may also present challenges in attracting young talent to the federal workforce. Our research found that distrust among young adults stems from a feeling of disconnect between the government and their daily lives, a belief that the government is corrupt and influenced by money and special interests, and a perception that the government does not act in their best interests or addresses their concerns. Our report provides recommendations on how federal agencies can gain young adults’ trust, such as:? ? Communicating more authentically and honestly through channels where young adults are getting their information. ? ? Modernizing their digital presence and revamping how they use social media.? ? Identifying and using trusted messengers who are best suited to communicate with young adults.? ? Telling relatable stories about the work federal employees do. Learn more about how federal agencies and other stakeholders can bridge the trust gap and better engage young adults in public service. Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/4f1uZpt
