With the news this week of so many technologists and other federal civil servants being let go from their jobs, it feels like we continue to be left with more questions than answers. Each time we lurch from one crisis to the next, thousands of dedicated public servants face gut-wrenching uncertainty. These aren't just numbers on a spreadsheet - they're families unable to plan for their future, workers forced to question their career choices, and communities watching their economic stability erode. Our civil servants deserve better than being used as bargaining chips. They're the people who keep our national parks open, ensure our food is safe, advance critical research, and provide countless essential services that Americans rely on every day. When we treat government operations like a light switch to be flicked on and off, we don't just damage institutional effectiveness - we shatter the trust and security of the people who have dedicated their careers to serving the public good.
