https://lnkd.in/g74cqPXx RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - Nevada Highway Patrol and four other agencies will be working to remove impaired drivers from the roads. There have been 39 fatalities from car crashes in Nevada so far in 2025.?In 2023, Nevada saw 384 fatal car crashes. The goal of the Joining Forces Program is to bring down the number of fatalities on highways by increasing public awareness of the mistakes many people make driving every day. Sergeant Chris Brown with Nevada Highway Patrol says all crashes are preventable, and that one, is one too many. Brown suspects one of the reasons these crashes happen is because driving has become an everyday mundane activity for most people, therefore we don’t take it as seriously as we should. “It’s become such a normal thing to get in your car and go 65 miles an hour, 70 miles an hour down a road. The force that’s behind those vehicles, you just don’t understand. My family drives these roads every day. My friends drive these roads every day. It’s everybody that’s out there. It’s our whole community that can be impacted by somebody making a poor choice behind the wheel.” Remember, impaired and distracted driving doesn’t just include driving under the influence. “It’s not just alcohol. It can also be marijuana. It can be prescription medications, pain medications,” says Sgt. Brown. Driving while eating or on a cell phone, not stopping at red lights and stop signs, and speeding can all lead to crashes. “In the Reno area, the majority of our crashes, especially in the morning, is from following too close. The aggressive driving is becoming more and more of a thing and just being patient. I heard a great line that the traffic’s going to be there, whether you like it or not, whether you complain about it or not,” says Sgt. Brown. The current Joining Forces Campaign will be ongoing between Feb. 8 through Feb. 23. The Nevada Office of Traffic Safety is providing the funding for law enforcement agencies to participate in the Joining Forces program.

https://lnkd.in/gWxfwh9C "In response to a surge in semi-truck crashes, Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) is deploying new thermal imaging technology to enhance road safety. Since December 2024, NHP responded to over 160 commercial vehicle crashes, seven of which were fatal. The state is introducing two thermal imaging vans to scan semi-trucks on major roadways. These vans help patrol officers quickly identify trucks with federal out-of-service orders or high safety scores by scanning Department of Transportation numbers and license plates."
