Highlighting key global health issues, celebrating heroes and inspiring the next generation of public health providers

关于我们

We firmly believe that sound public health information must be available for all. We deem it critical that aspiring and current public health students, job seekers and young professionals develop an increased awareness of the field. We believe that role models and mentors are not necessarily the few people who are at the executive or senior management levels of an organization but more importantly, those who are on the front lines working hard, creating impact, and inspiring change every day. By bringing them into focus and highlighting their stories, we will benefit the larger public health community.

As the funeral proceedings for the late President #JimmyCarter begin today, I want to share the privilege my family had of connecting with his #legacy and #impact recently. On a family trip to #Atlanta, we visited the #CarterCenter to pay our respects, only to realize it was closed. Undeterred, we still made our way to the growing memorial on the grounds. In an interesting turn of events, a crew from WSB-TV approached us, and reporter Tyisha Fernandes gladly took pictures for us and asked if we would be part of an interview. We were featured in a local news segment ?? Watch the clip here: https://lnkd.in/e-4ePBpQ As a #globalhealth professional and #proudparent, President Carter’s legacy of #humility, #leadership, #service, and #humanitarianism inspire me. I hope the events of the next few days inspire us all to reflect and dedicate our lives to doing good and serving humanity. #chiefhumanitarian Devex #georgia The Carter Center #inspiringthenextgeneration #leadership

  • Today, December 12th, marks International Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day! This year’s theme, "Health: It’s on the Government," highlights the critical role of political leadership in building strong, resilient health systems that leave no one behind. UHC Day is a call to action—a reminder of the millions still waiting for access to quality health care and a chance to celebrate the progress made so far. It’s an opportunity for advocates to raise their voices, inspire smarter investments in health, and encourage commitments from diverse stakeholders to achieve universal health coverage by 2030. Access to health care is a fundamental human right. To promote physical and mental well-being and extend life expectancy, universal health coverage must be prioritized as an essential economic, social, and moral choice. Let’s work together to ensure no one is left behind on the journey toward health for all. #UHCDay2024 #UniversalHealthCoverage #HealthForAll

  • Today, December 1st, marks WORLD AIDS DAY, a day to unite in the fight against HIV, show support for those living with the virus, and remember those we’ve lost. 2024 year's theme, "Take the rights path: My health, my right!" Key fact from World Health Organization ?? HIV remains a significant global public health challenge, having claimed approximately 42.3 million lives so far. Despite progress, transmission continues in every country worldwide. ?? By the end of 2023, an estimated 39.9 million people were living with HIV, with 65% residing in the WHO African Region. ?? In 2023 alone, about 1.3 million individuals acquired HIV, and approximately 630,000 people succumbed to HIV-related illnesses. ?? While there is no cure for HIV, access to effective prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care—including for opportunistic infections—has transformed HIV into a manageable chronic condition. This enables individuals living with HIV to lead long, healthy lives. ?? The WHO, Global Fund, and UNAIDS have aligned global strategies with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 3.3, aiming to end the HIV epidemic by 2030. ?? By 2025, the goal is for 95% of all people living with HIV to know their status, 95% of those diagnosed to be on life-saving antiretroviral therapy, and 95% of those on treatment to achieve viral suppression. As of 2023, these targets were nearing achievement at 86%, 89%, and 93% respectively. Collective action and sustained commitment remain essential to realizing a world free of HIV/AIDS. Today we make our voice count and we speak up for health equity. The world can end AIDS, if everyone's right is protected. #WorldAIDSDay2024
