We are deeply saddened to share the passing of John McKnight, a visionary leader, co-founder of Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD), and steadfast champion of Public Allies. John passed away peacefully on November 2nd at the age of 92. His work emphasized the importance of recognizing and nurturing people’s gifts, local resources, and relationships to build strong, resilient communities—principles that continue to guide our work at Public Allies. His contributions to social justice, civil rights, and community empowerment have inspired countless leaders and movements worldwide. During his two years as a Public Ally with Public Allies Arizona Greggory Ohannessian was part of a project to make more inclusive spaces for children with disabilities, which was a passion of his. It fostered his desire to be an advocate for the community, and gave him the chance to learn the skills to do just that.
