?? Smallholder producers are at the heart of global food production, but they face substantial financing gaps that limit their potential to drive productivity and economic growth. Without access to critical inputs, they struggle to increase yields and income—key drivers of broader economic and social development. With an estimated $170 billion funding gap in regions like Africa, Latin America, and Asia, the need for accessible and tailored financial solutions has never been more urgent. Barriers such as limited access to formal financial services, lack of collateral, and cultural hesitations around loans continue to hold back progress (CSIS, 2022). At Koltiva, we’re closing this gap with #KoltiPay, our responsible eWallet feature that empowers smallholder producers and agribusinesses. Through a closed-loop inputs-financing system, we provide underserved rural communities with access to essential banking services—from application submission and data verification by our Boots-on-the-Ground agents to pay-later disbursements for agri-inputs or services and seamless repayments, all within one ecosystem.? ? Discover our closed-loop inputs-financing features:? ?? Loan Management: Seamless loan submission, verification, and repayment with banks and MFIs to provide accessible and tailored financing solutions for smallholders. ?? Agri-Inputs Purchasing: Secure access to vital farming inputs through trusted local distributors, with flexible payment options including cash, bank transfer, eWallet and split payment (half cash, half transfer). Smallholders can choose between direct payment or pay-later options for greater financial flexibility. ?? Crop Transactions: Producers can sell crops to traders or cooperatives with automated loan repayment—where outstanding pay-later balances are deducted directly from crop sales. ?? Premium Payment Distribution: Agribusinesses can disburse funds to selected producers through points that can be redeemed for agricultural inputs. In addition, producers can manage utility PPoB payments and access essential services directly from their phones.? ??? By bridging financial gaps, we’re not just providing access to resources—we’re enabling smallholder producers to sustain their livelihoods, increase their income, and build a more resilient future. With closed-loop system, we also help mitigate repayment risks by ensuring traceability and better income predictability. Ready to empower producers with responsible financing? The #EUDR has raised concerns about its impact on smallholders, with the biggest risk being smallholder exclusion from global supply chains. Smallholders, who produce 40% of global palm oil ?? (SEI.org, 2024), face challenges in complying with requirements—such as geolocation and #traceability. However, by utilizing the right strategies and technology tools, these requirements also present an opportunity to empower smallholders rather than leave them behind.? ? On The Sustainable Commodities Podcast, our Sr. Head of Markets - Indonesia, Luca Fischer, shares how traceability can unlock new possibilities for smallholder producers:? ? Field data insights support better decision-making that benefits smallholders? ? A digital transaction record can improve access to finance for replanting and agri-inputs? ? Land mapping helps smallholders navigate land legalization, addressing a key barrier many still face? ? Ensuring smallholders are included in deforestation-free #supplychains isn’t just necessary—it’s the key to a more #sustainable and equitable future. ???

As we look ahead to 2025, what does the future hold for the cocoa industry???? In 2024, we witnessed significant fluctuations in production and prices, primarily driven by adverse weather conditions and #supplychain disruptions in key regions like C?te d'Ivoire and Ghana. Add to this the complexities of global regulations like the EU Deforestation-Free Regulation (#EUDR), which imposes new requirements on cocoa businesses exporting to the EU—the world’s largest #cocoa consumer, with 58% of global imports. By comparison, North America and Latin America together account for about 25% of global cocoa bean imports, and Asia for 17% (CBI, 2024). How can cocoa businesses ensure compliance, secure market access, avoid fines, and, most importantly, adopt #sustainable practices to support long-term cocoa production? ?? Meet our expert at the Chocoa Trade Fair 2025 (Feb 5–7, Beurs van Berlage, Amsterdam) and discover how agri-businesses can lead the way in data transparency and building sustainable supply chains. Stay tuned for more details on our participation!
