DESIGN WITH MEANING. ENLIVEN YOUR SPACE AND HARMONIZE YOUR RELATIONSHIPS.

关于我们

Psychitecture is an emerging scientific discipline built on the fundamental belief in the power of one's environment to support and enhance one's well-being which goes beyond traditional models of design. A "psychitect" or art and design analyst works as a design and art advisory consultant between clients, designers, architects, and art dealers. We assess the psychological and functional needs of an individual, family, and organization to create the most deeply desirable, satisfying and inspirational space possible. It is through this deeper inquiry and problem-solving where an individual or business can reflect an authentic place of beauty and efficiency in its highest form. Rachel Melvald, Principal of Psychitecture, is a practicing psychotherapist with a background in design and the arts, who has the ability to problem-solve and work as an intermediary between professionals such as architects and clients to achieve maximum design results. • Did you know that physical spaces can significantly influence memory formation and recall? ??? Certain places evoke strong memories and feelings of nostalgia because our brains connect specific environments with experiences. The sights, sounds, and even smells of a location can trigger vivid recollections, making it a powerful tool in memory retention. ?? By designing spaces that foster positive experiences, we can enhance our emotional well-being and create lasting memories. What place holds a special memory for you? • Texture plays a powerful role in how we experience a space, affecting both comfort and mental well-being. ??? Soft fabrics like velvet or wool can create a sense of warmth and calm, while natural materials like wood and stone ground us with their organic feel. Incorporating a variety of textures in your home—plush rugs, woven throws, or smooth surfaces—helps balance the senses and creates a cozy, inviting atmosphere. ?? How do you use texture to elevate your space? Kudos to @vonholzhausen for this stunning @archdigest feature! #TextureInDesign #ComfortAndWellBeing #Psychitecture #InteriorDesign

  • Sound has a profound effect on how we experience a space. ??? Natural sounds like rain or birdsong can promote tranquility, while soothing music enhances relaxation and focus. Even intentional silence can offer mental clarity. Designing spaces with sound in mind means reducing noise pollution—by using soft materials that absorb sound, adding rugs or curtains, and opting for quiet corners. ?? A peaceful soundscape creates a sanctuary-like atmosphere, making it easier to unwind and connect with the moment. How do you use sound in your spaces? • The layout of a room has a huge impact on mental clarity and focus. ??? Open, flowing spaces encourage creativity and calm, while cluttered or disjointed layouts can lead to distraction and overwhelm. To enhance flow and productivity in your workspace, start by decluttering and organizing your essentials. Consider rearranging furniture to create an open path and balance between work and relaxation zones. Simple changes can make a big difference in how you feel and function in your space. ?? • We often underestimate how much our built environment impacts not only our physical well-being but also our cognitive health. This statistic is a powerful reminder that urban design isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating spaces that foster movement, health, and connection. Our elderly communities should be designed for living—encouraging daily walking, social interaction, and a deeper connection to nature. ????♀? By prioritizing pedestrian-friendly spaces, we’re not just creating neighborhoods—we’re investing in healthy aging and cognitive longevity. Let’s design with purpose and intention, keeping in mind the true impact of how we live and move within our environments. #NeuroDesign #HealthyAging #CognitiveHealth #DesignForWellbeing #ElderlyCare #UrbanDesign #Psychitecture

  • Biophilia: our natural bond with nature ??? Coined by E.O. Wilson, this concept taps into the innate connection we all share with the natural world. The more we bring nature into our spaces, the more we reconnect with our authentic, biological well-being. Whether it's through plants, natural light, or organic materials, designing with biophilia in mind helps us feel grounded, calm, and whole. ?? How do you incorporate nature into your space? #BiophilicDesign #Psychitecture #Wellbeing #NatureInDesign

  • During a recent visit to the first Aspen Art Fair at the Jerome Hotel, I was captivated by pieces from Southern Guild gallery (LA) and El Apartamento (Havana). Art enhances the Feeling Space by encouraging deeper connection, reflection, and a sense of curiosity. What’s a piece of art that moves you? And how do you think it would transform your space? #FeelingSpace #ArtAndDesign #NeuroDesign #SouthernGuildGallery #ElApartamentoArt #ArtInspiration #Psychitecture
