Penn State Erie, The Behrend College State Behrend had its fourth year of growth in 2024, with more first-year and transfer students, plus new academic programs, research funding, and campus upgrades. Research funding is now nearly $10 million, strengthening ties with local industries. Behrend is also building a $22.5 million Center for Manufacturing Competitiveness, with labs for plastics, metal-casting, and the nation’s first heavy-haul battery-testing facility. The expansion also includes a new 50,000-square-foot production space for KYOCERA AVX Components Corporation, opening this year, focused on aerospace and defense. Knowledge Park's growth boosts Behrend’s Open Lab approach, where students work with businesses on cool projects like VR museum exhibits and lighting displays at Presque Isle State Park. One Behrend-designed dog toy even made it onto Discovery Channel’s Undercover Billionaire.
