On January 24, WSCAI hosted its Annual Awards Gala at the Westin in Bellevue with an Old Hollywood theme. As the highlight of the night, firm founder Terry Leahy received the WSCAI Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by shareholder attorney Allison Peryea. Allison was also sworn in as a member of the WSCAI Board of Directors for her fifth year on the Board (she is serving as President-Elect this year). We had a full table and even longtime Peryea Silver Taylor attorney Stephan Fjelstad showed up (he was nominated for Individual Business Partner of the Year). On January 21, our firm hosted a “sprinkle” for our firm administrator, Whitney Schneider. She will be welcoming a baby boy, who will be joining his big brothers this month.

Our firm is delighted to introduce our newest addition to the Peryea Silver Taylor crew—Clover! Clover is a mini-Australian Shepherd who joined the Shareholder Attorney Bennett Taylor’s family as a much-loved holiday surprise for daughters Sloane and Emerson. Clover will be visiting the office as soon as she gets the potty training thing figured out.

Peryea Silver Taylor firm founder, attorney Terry Leahy, a College of Community Association Lawyers (CCAL) fellow, will be co-presenting at the Community Association Institute Law Seminar in San Antonio, Texas, on January 29. Lawyers, having once created the common interest community housing model, have ever since been the stewards of what we created. Corporate Transparency Act Update: On December 3, 2024, the federal court for the Eastern District of Texas ruled that the Corporate Transparency Act was unconstitutional and vacated its registration deadlines. On December 26, the federal Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed that the deadlines would not be enforced until an appeal of the lower court’s ruling could be heard. If you have not registered with the Department of the Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) yet, then you are not required to do so unless the appeals court reverses the ruling of the District Court. Given the inherent uncertainty in the outcome of the appeals process, the more prudent course of action is to register. On December 10, shareholder attorney Allison Peryea provided the legal perspective on a panel of industry experts regarding the process of universal application of RCW 64.90 (the Washington Uniform Common Interest Ownership Act, or WUCIOA) to all community associations in Washington State. This panel occurred at the Annual Chapter Luncheon, which featured an ugly sweater theme at the Bellevue Hilton. The event was co-sponsored by Peryea Silver Taylor. The event also included WSCAI’s Annual Meeting, at which it was announced that Allison will be serving her sixth and final year of her two, three-year terms on the WSCAI Board next year.
