关于我们
Driven by keen interest in geomechanics and supported by an established foundation in structural geology and tectonics, the amalgamated discipline of petroleum structural geology and geomechanics is one of the fastest growing disciplines in petroleum geoscience. Evidence of the growing importance of this technical area includes rapid growth of technical teams on these topics within companies, the increasing importance of deep and/or geomechanically complex targets, and the proliferation of papers and specialty meetings on petroleum structural geology and geomechanics. The goals of the PSGD are to: ? Increase the quantity and quality of specialty conferences, publications, and educational outreach for the petroleum structure and geomechanics disciplines within the AAPG. ? Provide greater discipline-specific assistance to local organizing groups. ? Serve an important interest community within the general AAPG membership.

It's that time of year again when the PSGD is soliciting abstracts for IMAGE 2025 being held August 25-28 in Houston, TX.?https://lnkd.in/gAXBFFsC As you may know, the PSGD is responsible?for the STGM Structure, Tectonics, and Geomechanics Sessions, and this year our STGM Chairs are David Forand and Alissa Henza, thank you to those two for helping us represent our community and putting on a great show! ?? We would love for you to consider submitting an abstract! The call for abstracts is now open and closes on?March 15th, just over one month away! When submitting, please select Geological Technologies --> Structure, Tectonics, and Geomechanics. ?? We strive to put on a quality program every year and what makes that happen is your willingness to present. Did you know that one of our own won the award for Best Geology Oral Presentation last year??? Adam Cawood, our VP and incoming President!!! Way to go PSGD and way to go Adam!!! ??? ?????? ??????????: ?????????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ???????????????????? Our latest paper, ?????????????? ?????????? ?????? ?????????? ????????????????????, is now available in ??????????????????????! This study combines high-resolution digital photogrammetry, field data, and stress analysis to characterize the surface morphology of three normal faults in the Glen Rose Formation at Canyon Lake Gorge, Texas. Key findings:? ? Fault failure modes determine the geometric characteristics of faults during their early formation and development? ? The studied faults are distinctly non-planar, with complex surface morphologies and a wide range of slip and dilation tendency values? ? Evidence for coeval shear, hybrid (extension-shear), and compactional shear failure demonstrates diverse and variable failure behaviors along individual faults ? Distinct failure behaviors are consistent with patchworks of volume neutral, volume gain, and volume loss across fault surfaces Our work challenges the traditional view of faults forming by shear failure on surfaces oriented 30° to σ1. Instead, we observe variable failure modes acting simultaneously, resulting in highly complex fault morphologies. These findings have implications for understanding the hydraulic behavior, reactivation potential, and geomechanical properties of faults—key considerations for resource exploration, hazard assessment, and subsurface modeling. We're proud of our own VP and incoming President, Adam Cawood, on his Best Oral Paper Award from #IMAGE2024 ?? Adam is a true rockstar and does incredible work. This award is well-deserved and we're happy to call Adam one of our own! ?? #structuralgeology #geomechanics #geology #faults #fractures
Dr. Adam Cawood received notification that he won Best Oral Paper for Geological Technology for his presentation “Fault displacement gradients in mechanically layered rock” at the International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy (IMAGE) 2024.?The presentation is based on recent research conducted under SwRI’s Internal Research and Development program.?IMAGE is a joint annual meeting hosted by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), in conjunction with the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM). Congratulations Adam – well done!!!
