On Tuesday, March 4th, H&SS students and alumni gathered for a networking dinner in the Susan Hirt Hagen CORE building. The evening began with a panel discussion in which the alumni shared the stories behind their careers and offered professional development advice drawn from their own experiences. Before attending the dinner, all students participated in a seminar that covered the fundamentals of networking and business dinner etiquette. Thank you to the Janet Neff Sample Center for sponsoring the meal for this event!

STANDOUT SENIORS '25: "I’m in awe of mentoring and helping professions. Growing up, I dreamed of inspiring and helping people. But, more than that, as I’ve gotten older, I realized how sacred and important the mental health profession is. To truly sit with someone on their darkest and brightest days is an honor I cannot wait to have in my therapeutic relationships." ~ Amy Newcomer, senior Psychology major. Professors in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences engage in a wide array of research, scholarly activities, and creative accomplishments to stay current in their fields and provide students with the best education possible. Dr. Elisa Beshero-Bondar has been a DIGIT professor at Penn State Behrend since the fall of 2020. One of her many prized research projects is the Frankenstein Variorum. This is a collaborative, multi-institutional effort to produce a new collated edition of the 1818, 1823, and 1831 editions of Frankenstein, together with the manuscript notebook published at the Shelley Godwin Archive. She states, "It has been technologically challenging and exacting, requiring careful, accurate, and conscientious decision-making in the handling of humanities research data, working with 19th-century archives and manuscripts and five different versions of the novel Frankenstein." https://lnkd.in/eD83ep5P

Justin Lopez-Beltran, a senior at Penn State Behrend, spent much of the summer as an intern for U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler – a 2004 Behrend graduate. “This experience has been invaluable, allowing me to develop a deep understanding of the legislative process and the importance of constituent service,” he said. “From giving tours of the U.S. Capitol building to assisting the team with critical research, this internship was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” #WeAre
