I’m so honored that I was able to spend 3 weeks in a row at University of Kentucky, sharing my Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) knowledge with so many audiences! I started with Holly Wiemers, APR class talking about my journey through my career, then I spoke with Marc Whitt’s class on strategic communications, and ended my 3 week run speaking about crisis communication at the University of Kentucky ‘s Jim Beam institute conference. Such an honor and privilege to speak to so many diverse audiences! PRSA East Central District PRSA Thoroughbred Chapter Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) University of Kentucky

Join us today from 12pm- 1pm for an insightful conversation with Dr. Scottie Day, Physician-in-Chief of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, as he explores the impact of storytelling in healthcare. In today’s media landscape, compelling narratives are essential for educating, inspiring, and building public support — and nowhere is this more evident than in pediatric medicine. Dr. Day will share how Kentucky Children’s Hospital uses patient stories to shape public perception, engage stakeholders, and strengthen advocacy efforts. Gain valuable insights into how storytelling can enhance brand trust, drive engagement, and influence policy. This event is offered at no cost. We simply request that you RSVP below. Meet Melissa Hammer. Melissa is the Associate Director of Communications for the Kappa Delta Foundation. What is one of the most memorable or rewarding experiences of your career? When I first joined the Kappa Delta Foundation, the organization was in the feasibility study phase of planning for a scholarship-specific capital campaign. I was tasked from day one to create and execute ALL comms for the campaign, Imagine Her Future. Imagine Her Future publicly launched in June 2021, after having secured more than $1.5 million during the quiet phase that began Aug. 1, 2019. The original goal was $2.5 million. We exceeded our own goal one year after the launch, set a new aspirational goal and exceeded that! In fact, during the weeks leading up to Kappa Delta’s biennial National Convention, just shy of $1 million was added to the campaign through individual donations and those creating new scholarships. All told, we raised $4,624,649! I feel incredibly proud of the work I put in to make the campaign come alive and that the organization trusted me to tell the story of the importance of scholarships for our KD sisters. Today I was joined by 3 other EKU PRSSA members to come together for lunch at Millstone Social with PRSA Thoroughbred Chapter! Everytime I visit and bond with my friends in the Throroughbred Chapter, I know I’m in for a treat. Wether it’s making comedic jokes towards Marc Whitt or receiving insight from the mastermind Katie Neal, I always leave feeling fulfilled and inspired. Besides highlighting the relationship we have with our PRSA parent chapter, events like this highlight the reason it’s so important to network. The three members who joined me today have never been to a social with PRSA. Once we left, I noticed my peers were ecstatic to have gotten contacts and connections. Their reactions reminded me of the reason I am in this field. Thank you to everyone who came! It was a great start to spring break!
