One of the 10 PRSA districts, the East Central District represents 15 chapters and 1,900 members concentrated in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Western and Northwestern Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The district also sponsors 65 PRSSA chapters. Our mission is to build stronger chapters throughout the district by facilitating chapter leadership development, professional development and communication between all components of the organization.

I once had to rewrite a media pitch six times because my initial pitch was too long. However, each time I refined it, the pitch was more succinct. I learned a lot by observing and interacting with PR leaders. Whether a person is a new or seasoned pro, we are always learning. PRSA stands for professional excellence and ethics, and work at the chapter level puts this mission into action. Established in 2021, the PRominent Awards recognize chapters in the East Central District that demonstrate excellence in their chapter operations by meeting 11 of 14 criteria. Last year’s winners included PRSA Hoosier Chapter, PRSA Dayton, PRSA Detroit and PRSA Thoroughbred Chapter. Applications are due by midnight April 11, and winner(s) will be recognized by the board April 23 and at the East Central District Conference in September.
