The City is proud to acknowledge the latest Vernon CommUNITY Fund (VCF) grant recipients! These amazing nonprofit organizations offer invaluable services to our local communities, and it is our privilege and honor to partner with them in their efforts to better the lives of so many individuals and families in the Vernon Area. This year, the VCF awarded $280,000 in grants to support organizations focusing on healthcare, youth development, mentoring, and tutoring, civic engagement, legal advocacy, food insecurity, mental health, and career preparedness. Congratulations to Catholic Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles County, Dolores Mission School, Family Health Care Centers of Greater Los Angeles, Helping Hands Society of LA, JOVENES, INC., Mental Health Advocacy Services, Newstart Housing Corporation, Project Return Peer Support Network, Proyecto Pastoral, PUENTE Learning Center, So’oh-Shinali Sister Project, Southeast Community Development Corporation, Southeast Community Foundation, Southeast Rio Vista YMCA, Survivor Justice Center, Vernon City Elementary School, Woodcraft Rangers, and Youth Champions! I suppose it is hard to prove that a world filled with kindness, tenderness, grace, respect, equality, justice, reciprocity, love, and joy, is possible, but it is the world that I want to live in for myself, my children, my children’s children, and others, and so I believe it is. I have seen it in others so I know it is possible. They want us divided and fighting among ourselves to distract us from the work, but we now must work in solidarity to create the world that is everything we need and more. Why would we want to live in any other place?

Thank you to my Los Angeles GCB peers from BofA Plaza whom graciously contributed to this Holiday Season’s Joy by sponsoring 5th & 6th graders from a local after school program (IMPACTO) Proyecto Pastoral ??? It was beautiful to see Bank of America’s strength within the most needed communities in Los Angeles. Hani Hawa’s genuine and strong leadership enhanced this experience as he gathered his Glendale & Alhambra Sites for impactful sponsorship of multiple classes.
