Using data and evidence for more impactful assistance in fragile contexts.
关于我们
Proximity is a women-owned small business that sits astride the worlds of program implementation and monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL). We deploy innovative research methods to collect data in fragile contexts where reliable information is scarce. And we leverage that data to place learning at the center of our implementation to deliver dynamic programming in complex contexts. Our name embodies our desire to be close to humanitarian and development challenges. It also reflects our commitment to building our own teams in the communities with which we work. This proximity allows us to provide our partners with unique insight about the real-world issues that are affecting societies. Proximity has completed over 100 projects in a variety of?contexts. ?We have significant experience working in some of the world's most fragile contexts including Syria, Iraq, Yemen, South Sudan, Libya, and Tunisia. Proximity's diverse team of expert researchers and M&E professionals?employ innovative technology to remotely train and manage teams of field researchers. Our project managers come to us after working with some of the world's top academic, public, and private institutions, think tanks, development and aid organizations. Reach us at [email protected]

?? New Research: Social Protection in Post-Assad Syria #Syria is undergoing an unprecedented transition following the fall of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, and the rise of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). In this rapidly shifting landscape, how is social protection evolving? As part of the Institute of Development Studies-led BASIC Research Programme, Proximity International conducted a rapid assessment of the current changes in social protection across the country. Through 10 Syrian researchers covering nine governorates, the findings reveal a further deterioration of social protection services, with increasingly blurred lines between government support, local charities, and humanitarian relief efforts. ?? I’m pleased to share my thoughts with Proximity International on the crucial protection of #water resources in northeast #Syria during the country’s transition period and beyond. Throughout the last 14 years, Syria’s water has been weaponised. This month, as opposition forces took control of Aleppo, Homs, and Damascus, factions in the northeast have launched repeated attacks to control key infrastructure along Syria’s rivers. As #Türkiye looks to assert itself over northern Syria, and as local populations demonstrate dissatisfaction with the SDF, all parties know that control of vital waterways will be key to delivering services and holding onto power. There will not be very many more opportunities like the current Syrian power transition to protect water management and sustainable sharing agreements along the #Euphrates. As the bargaining chips of security guarantees, oil control, and reconstruction funds begin to be exchanged, an agreement on future water supply must be understood as a key variable for rehabilitation in Syria. It is also in the interest of all stakeholders to acknowledge that the sovereignty of Syrians over their own water resources is essential for the long-term stability of the region as a whole.
