Through practical and pioneering approaches, our Technology Development & Licensing team is driving academic innovation forward. ?? From supporting agri-tech innovations with Ceres Agri-Tech Knowledge Exchange Partnership to bridging the gap from research to market with the Technology Investment Fund, our team works with brilliant research across Life Sciences, Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Physical Sciences and Technology to identify, protect, and promote new innovations that will change our world for the better. Part of the TIF portfolio and Founders at the University of Cambridge START 1.0 cohort, we're proud to spotlight Protonera. Co-founded by Dr Jack Chengzhi Guo, Professor Erwin Reisner, Professor Florian Hollfelder, and Dr. Subhajit Bhattacharjee from the Department of Biochemistry, University of Cambridge and University of Cambridge Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, Protonera is addressing the issue of plastic waste. Annually, over 400 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated, with the majority either burnt or sent to landfill. Protonera, a technological discovery from the University of Cambridge, tackles this issue with a novel chemoenzymatic photoreforming process. Potentially being "one of the most exciting and disruptive technologies to impact?the chemical industry in decades," shares Margaret Wilkinson, Commercialisation Director at Cambridge Enterprise. Founded by Professor Erwin Reisner and Dr Jack Chengzhi Guo, they are revolutionising waste management by converting plastic waste into hydrogen, providing a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. ??
