Annually, over 400 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated, with the majority either burnt or sent to landfill. Protonera, a technological discovery from the University of Cambridge, tackles this issue with a novel chemoenzymatic photoreforming process. Potentially being "one of the most exciting and disruptive technologies to impact?the chemical industry in decades," shares Margaret Wilkinson, Commercialisation Director at Cambridge Enterprise. Founded by Professor Erwin Reisner and Dr Jack Chengzhi Guo, they are revolutionising waste management by converting plastic waste into hydrogen, providing a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. ??
