The energy transition certainly isn’t a smooth and linear process, but developments like these give me the conviction that, despite the ‘bumps in the road’, we are making good progress. Many studies have shown that #ammonia is the most economical, no-carbon maritime (bunker) fuel for the global shipping industry. With more and more shipping companies choosing ammonia, this is not only good news for the maritime sector. The volume of ammonia needed in the future for supplying vessels and the required (port) infrastructure will also provide the economies of scale that will enable a multitude of other ammonia applications from power generation to fuel cell applications. #ProtonVentures #ammoniaengineering #ammoniastorage

Proton Ventures is proud to collaborate with Tractebel and IMDC on the Medhyterra project, France’s first low-carbon ammonia terminal. As part of the transformation of the Fos Tonkin liquefied natural gas terminal, this project includes the development of a 30,000 m3 ammonia tank, enabling the import, storage, and distribution of 200 kilotons per year of low-carbon ammonia (NH?). By enabling the import of low-carbon ammonia, this terminal plays a role in reducing emissions in agriculture, chemistry, and automotive industries. Its ability to convert ammonia into low-carbon hydrogen further extends its impact to refining, metallurgy, and heavy mobility sectors. Together with Tractebel’s Gas-to-X experts and IMDC, we contributed to the preliminary Front-End Engineering Design (pre-FEED) studies for Elengy. We’re excited to see this vision take shape and are committed to driving innovation for a cleaner tomorrow.

As the year draws to a close, we would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been a challenging year for Proton Ventures and the green ammonia industry as a whole. We have continued to grow and develop as interest in ammonia as an energy carrier and fuel is gaining momentum. The Industry is increasingly recognizing the potential of ammonia, a vision we have shared for over two decades. We are grateful for the continued trust, loyalty, and collaboration with our valued partners, customers, and colleagues. Growth and development are never without challenges, but we have embraced them, adapting to circumstances and taking meaningful steps toward a stronger future. Showcasing our ammonia expertise is what we enjoy most and we are thankful for the exciting projects we have executed. Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue building on this momentum together, embracing new opportunities to shape a more sustainable world. We were honored to participate in discussions in Oslo on the critical role of hydrogen in decarbonizing the maritime sector. With the Dutch King Willem-Alexander and the Norwegian Crown Prince Haakon present, the focus was on green maritime corridors like those between the Netherlands and Norway. The event, part of a state visit to Denmark and Norway, aimed to strengthen cooperation on hydrogen and regional infrastructure. Yesterday, we took on the challenge of the Harbour Run once again! At Proton Ventures, we believe that innovation goes hand in hand with teamwork and adventure. And yesterday our sporty team tackled an obstacle course that swayed between and over massive containers in the Port of Rotterdam. The teamwork shown by our colleagues proves that together we can overcome any obstacle—both on and off the track.
