A Reflection of Innovation: Mirrored Cabins using Protean Honeycomb Panels When you think of spending time in nature, you may think of fresh mountain air, abundant wildlife, and serene landscapes. That’s what Valley Bear Farms in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina offers nature-lovers on its 150-acre of private estate. However, the owners wanted to take that feeling of being enveloped by nature to new heights. They wanted to build mirrored cabins that reflect their surroundings to deepen the feeling of connection with nature. Scott Latell of Ed Burdette Construction (EBC), the builder enlisted on the project, reached out to SpecSouth Group to help source materials for these mirrored cabins in the woods. Ty Routen of SpecSouth told Mr. Latell that he had the perfect panel for the job. The teams at EBC, SpecSouth and Protean worked together to bring the vision to life. They chose Protean honeycomb metal panels (HMP) with #8 polished stainless-steel skins and aluminum honeycomb core to make sure the panels were as flat as possible. Protean is excited to announce the launch of our new AAMA 508-Certified Honeycomb Metal Panel (HMP) Rainscreen System. Like all lines of our Honeycomb Metal Panels (HMPs), the HC-2000RS weighs less than aluminum plate and aluminum composite panels while providing strength and increased wind-load resistance. They also offer the same high aesthetic appeal: crisp edges with sharp reveals on large, smooth expanses. Unlike our other HMP series, the HC-2000RS is a true, pressure equalized rainscreen. AAMA 508-Certified, these rainscreens offer a multiple-line-of-defense approach coupled with the design flexibility inherent in HMP systems. This means that our new HC-2000RS offers high-end performance while being economical from both an installation and maintenance perspective. All our HMPs are constructed with non-combustible materials for NFPA-285 applications, which makes them infinitely recyclable and supportive of sustainability objectives.
