  • Welcome to Issue 19 of the Protagoniste Resource Roundup. Every week you'll find a couple of resources related to the 4 Ms of design leadership mastery: Method (design thinking and making), Mindset (growth mindset, commitment, reliability, collaboration, and inclusion) Money (understand how money moves to embrace its power at work and in life) Meaning (storytelling, personal branding, diversity of perspectives) / Meaning “Given what we know about human flourishing — that it's fundamentally relational, and that technology can be an enabler or inhibitor of relationships — how do we have a conversation about how tech could be designed and deployed to facilitate the relational context for flourishing?” Check out?this insightful article?that ties into some of the conversations we're having in P+ about building the tech that humans need (Joy Lau ? ; ) versus trying to humanise the tech we decided to build. https://lnkd.in/gg84CFxX / Mindset The artificial separation we've created between natural and human #ecosystems robs us of many foundational elements of our essence as humans. This includes being obsessed with “differentiating ourselves in the market” so we can “dominate”. There's only one of you. Your ability to bring those gifts to collective work is what makes you intrinsically valuable. Here's?some inspiration?to embrace collaboration and interconnectedness to make an impact. “We need to see ourselves as "interbeings" rather than competitors fighting for scarce resources. We need to design #creative ecosystems that mirror nature's complexity, measuring wealth in variety rather than volume, and participating in rather than dominating our cultural habitats.” https://lnkd.in/gq-Ep2yC What's inspiring you these days? Let us know in the comments. #keepgoing

What does this mean for us as #designers? It turns out, these are skills we apply every day in our work. / Method 4 types of thinking and when to apply them https://lnkd.in/gdHC2NBd / Method Is Human-Centered Design (HCD) still relevant when AI claims to be able to do all that research and testing for us? https://lnkd.in/gNY6KY6T

  • Welcome to Issue 17 of the Protagoniste Resource Roundup. Every week you'll find a couple of resources related to the 4 Ms of design leadership mastery: Method (design thinking and making), Mindset (growth mindset, commitment, reliability, collaboration, and inclusion) Money (understand how money moves to embrace its power at work and in life) Meaning (storytelling, personal branding, diversity of perspectives) None of us can escape #AI and the relentless hype surrounding its use for increased efficiency—including in so-called human-centered design. The accelerating trend of product-led growth and business-first approach to design is steering us away from, instead of towards, a greater understanding of the humans whose lives we claim to want to improve. Design #research has often been relegated to a nice-to-have-if-you-can-afford-it status. Yet, the complexity of the issues we are tackling as a society, their interconnectedness with other issues, and the number of stakeholders involved, requires allowing for nuance and outliers, as well as a willingness to engage with the messiness that makes us human. This doesn't mean avoiding AI altogether. It simply means evaluating its fitness for purpose at any given time. Welcome to Issue 15 of the Protagoniste Resource Roundup. Every week you'll find a couple of resources related to the 4 Ms of design leadership: Method / Mindset / Money / Meaning / Method Too often design-led research runs the risk of being either cursory or extractive. When we research communities we don't belong to, it's key to find ways to involve them or, better yet,?have them lead. https://lnkd.in/g4m94aSz / Method This second resource extends this reflection to?the lies we tell ourselves?about how close we are to the people we claim to be designing for. We all have the best intentions. Ensuring those intentions translate into improving the lives of our users will make it all even better. https://lnkd.in/gDTwTVrt Let us know what you think of these. Understanding our own positionality is key to becoming a design leader and a changemaker.

Are you working in a bubble? When we're head down in our work, we sometimes forget that being a designer requires us to be (more than) human-centered. ?? Being aware of the context of our work. ?? Seeking diverse experiences and voices. ?? Varying the sources we get knowledge and information from. ?? Trying different learning modalities (audio, reading, teaching, writing, discussion, etc.) ?? Exposing ourselves to opposing or differing views. ?? Listening and reflecting without refuting. ?? Synthesising, analysing, and connecting what we are discovering. ?? Spending time in nature / in the city / in the in-betweens. All of these are practices that improve both our soft and hard skills. — What do you do to broaden your horizons?
