This #Thanksgiving, we reflect on the power of collaboration in advancing progress across Africa and the US. In October, Nigerian export ready firms spent two days learning and upskilling on all things AGOA utilization! Shaquana “Shaq” Teasley - DBS, CCS, MSLR, Founder of AGATE SOLUTIONS led facilitation of the two-day training, equipping firms with the needed skills and knowledge to boost non-oil AGOA utilization in Nigeria. With support from USAID, The US Trade Representative, SMEDAN and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), over 200 Nigerian firms are able to adequately navigate the intricacies of #AGOA and boost its utilization in the country. Coordinator British Robinson and the Prosper Africa team spent 2 days in Cote d’Ivoire to foster new trade and investment opportunities in francophone West Africa. The visit kicked off with courtesy visits to the US Ambassador to Cote d’Ivoire Jessica Davis Ba; Meetings with the Minister of Commerce, Minister Souleymane Diarrassouba; members of the American Chamber of Commerce; a bi-lateral meeting with the African Development Bank Group Senior Vice President Marie-Laure Akin-Olugbade. Coordinator Robinson also spoke with local technology and digital entrepreneurs at the Prosper Africa Workshop focused on “Unlocking Capital in Francophone West Africa” by connecting US investors with West African entrepreneurs to unlock capital, foster sustainable growth, and propel Francophone Africa to the forefront of the continent's digital revolution. The trip concluded with a tour of the Abidjan Port Terminal; and an interview at Radio-Albayane, a community radio station with the largest reach in the country.

This week, the Clean Tech Energy Network (#CTEN), led by Power Africa in partnership with USAID and Prosper Africa, embarked on a cleantech roadshow in North Carolina. Led by Power Africa Deputy Coordinator Cullen Hughes, this engagement highlighted cutting-edge energy companies and institutions in the U.S. renewable energy and cleantech innovation sector that can be a game-changer for Africa’s growing energy demands. A key highlight includes the final round of the 12th Annual Energy in Emerging Markets Case Competition, hosted by Duke’s James E. Rogers Energy Access Project. This year’s challenge centered on Zembo, a Ugandan e-mobility pioneer aiming to build the nation’s largest battery-swapping network for electric motorcycles. More than 70 teams from around the world participated, with an all-female team from Syracuse University taking the top prize. Thanks for the Teranga, Senegal! Last week, Coordinator British Robinson and the Prosper Africa team visited Dakar, Senegal to meet with women business leaders to discuss trade and investment, and how Prosper Africa can support their business growth. Coordinator Robinson attended an event to strengthen US-Africa trade in Francophone Africa in partnership with the Dakar Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (CCIAD), and Agence de Promotion des Investissements et des Grands Travaux (APIX). She also visited CTIC Dakar - Incubateur de Startups TIC , where she met entrepreneurs and the OPTIC Association. And lastly, the team met with FONSIS - Fonds Souverain du Sénégal to explore collaboration opportunities between Senegalese and American companies, advancing Senegal’s business ecosystem.
