Big news: On Monday, we welcomed our first resident at our newly opened 1374 Blondell Avenue shelter in the Bronx! This built-from-the-ground-up facility, owned and operated by Care For the Homeless, will provide beds for 200 men experiencing homelessness, a comprehensive range of social services and on on-site, licensed health center offering primary, mental health, and substance use treatment to the residents and nearby community in the Bronx. Today, Care For the Homeless welcomed the first residents to this brand-new shelter, which was designed to their specifications and which they own outright and will operate under a DHS contract with an initial term of 30 years. Not only will this program provide shelter, services, and healthcare for New Yorkers in need, it also builds CFH’s long-term assets. Congratulations to the entire team!
In early 2021, I was introduced to George Nashak, the CEO of Care For the Homeless, a wonderful organization that provides top-tier shelter and comprehensive healthcare services to homeless New Yorkers. Nearly four years and a couple of closings later, today Care for the Homeless took title to a beautiful, newly-constructed shelter for single adults designed by ESKW/Architects, which includes a co-located Federally Qualified Health Center on the ground floor. They'll welcome their first residents next week. I am truly humbled to have the privilege of working with George and the CFH team, Oliver Chase and Dani Feibusch at Hirschen Singer & Epstein LLP, and my incredible colleague Haley Meisenholder: truly a dream team!
