Prospanica NY is excited to announce our 2024 Top Latinx award honorees.
Join us in congratulating Monika Estrada Guzman, AWA, BSW, LMSW, SIFI who received the Latinx Educator in the Community Award!
Monika C. Estrada Guzman, BSW, LMSW, SIFI (she/her/ella) is a proud Guatemalan immigrant and social worker who brings a deeply personal, bicultural, and bilingual perspective to her work. As a Behavioral Health Social Worker in the Maternal and Child Integrated Mental Health Program (MAC-IMP) at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Monika supports prenatal patients by screening for and addressing behavioral health needs, providing both short-term and long-term mental health care. She also plays a key role in building partnerships with community-based organizations to offer wrap-around services for patients in ACN clinics.
In addition to her role at New York-Presbyterian, Monika is a clinician at Sandoval Psychotherapy Consultation, where she works with clients navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, and the complexities of parenthood. Monika also serves as a clinical supervisor to MSW interns, guiding and mentoring the next generation of social workers.
Monika is a passionate advocate for social justice and education within the Latino social work community. She serves as the Education Chair and Board Member for the Latino Social Work Coalition (LSWC), where she has co-created the Core Mentorship Program. This initiative provides second-year MSW students from New York City's nine social work schools with opportunities to network, build community, and explore innovative approaches to social work practice.
Before her current roles, Monika was the Founding Program Director of Nido de Esperanza in Washington Heights/Inwood, where she developed programs to support caregivers during the challenging periods of immigration, pregnancy, infancy, and toddlerhood.
Monika’s approach to social work is grounded in a trauma-informed, two-generation empowerment model, which fosters self-efficacy and resilience in her clients. This model supports individuals in managing the stressors of parenthood, immigration, and their cultural backgrounds. Her work is driven by a deep commitment to empowering those who face systemic barriers, particularly immigrant families and communities of color.
