    If you've ever won a small, plastic trophy for 'Best Lead Generation in the Moving and Storage Industry,' hold the applause. Past winners of the "Best Lead Generation in the Moving and Storage Industry" award include: Websites that (are quite literally) from 1999. TV commercials that look like that one commercial from Better Call Saul. Billboards which turned into an open canvas for the local graffiti artist community. -- Our message (actually, our plea) for Moving and Storage Companies: PLEASE get with the times and modernize your website! Why? Because nearly 80% of people search online for moving services. In an industry where 60% of consumers book their moves online, not having a strong online presence is like saying: 'I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse,' and then ghosting them entirely. We’ve all been there — don’t act like you haven’t (yeah, we’re talking about dating). If you want to win at lead gen, you have to go all in on every channel — direct mail, phone, email, and, most importantly, your website. If you don't?     This week, having a pipeline of seller leads turned from a "nice-to-have" into a?must-have. There's a lot of fear-mongering around "NAR week," but there's one non-negotiable: We have to find a way to generate more sellers. And no, it's not by spending thousands of dollars on a list with a handful of leads. It's not by blasting your referral network and hoping a few people respond. It's by?taking control of your pipeline and going out and finding off-market potential sellers. Not tomorrow, not a week from now;?today. Start by going after these lists: Move Up Sellers Cash Buyers Potential Downsizers Absentee Owners Then, make sure your outreach strategy (your messaging, your timing, etc) is buttoned up.     HVAC businesses are terrible at establishing their online presence. This isn't news... if you look at their websites, you'll likely find Adobe Flash players and 'Copyright 2007' on half their homepages. As a small local business, building your community is everything. 'Community' doesn’t only mean your physical neighborhood — it means your online community too. Without a strategy to build your online presence, you're missing out on awareness, leads, better customers, and, most importantly, building your community. With 70% of homes in the U.S. being 20+ years old, that's a HUGE market share you're missing if they can’t find you online. Even with such a large potential audience, you won't capture them if you're not investing the time to build your online presence. Invest in your website. Carefully curate your interactions with your online community. Most importantly? Don’t wait for leads to come to you. Take the strategy you generate for building your online community and extend it into other channels — direct mail, phone marketing, and email marketing.
