Below are notes from our MD, Sarah Abdelatif about a dynamic learning journey that starts now—for what’s needed for today and tomorrow for #developmentknowledge that works for #publicgood. We welcome your collaboration and contributions every step of the way, so please reach out to any of our team—DM us or comment below—if you would like to add your #development or #humanitarian programme knowledge, experience and insights to ‘The Developing Story’. Every knowledge input matters.

The loss of USAID’s institutional memory is not just a crisis for one organisation, I see it as a wake-up call for the entire development and humanitarian sector. Since the news broke about USAID, we’ve seen incredible efforts to salvage the knowledge and information that was suddenly taken offline. Reports, evaluations, and lessons from decades of work are no longer accessible. But the people who worked on them are still here. And their knowledge is just one piece of a much bigger puzzle. When I google "final evaluation reports climate action" I get about 1,350,000,000 results?in 0.26 seconds. But what happens to all that knowledge? Right now, it just sits in reports, buried in PDFs when it should be a public good, shared and used to drive better decisions. That’s why we’re working on bringing this scattered knowledge together. Not just USAID’s, but the lessons from across the development and humanitarian sector around key topics that concern us all. Building on the open knowledge maps we initially launched with the Pact for the Future, we’re putting together The Developing Story. A space where real-world experiences, practitioner insights, and critical lessons can be connected, mapped, and made actionable. The aim is to establish an open space making sure we use what we already know. We started compiling and making accessible learnings from USAID, Mercy Corps, Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC), UNDP and others. Of course, this is just the start. We will work from here to enter more and more learnings and invite all of you to join, use the space and contribute! Brief sneak peek below of the space in Propel. We'll introduce more about it in the coming days! Gail Pearman Helen Nonhoff #developmentknowledge #publicgood
