New: Anthony Levandowski, a pioneer of the self-driving industry, believes Tesla has the advantage in the robotaxi race right now. Tesla's "general" approach to autonomy (all cameras and AI, no costly Lidar sensors) could help it scale faster than Alphabet's Waymo, he believes. Tesla also has a lot of cars already on the road capturing crucial data. How does Google catch up? Levandowski suggests it may need to buy a car company or dramatically reduce the cost of its current vehicles.
