关于我们
ProLiteracy believes every adult has a right to literacy. We develop and promote adult literacy learning, content, programs and advocacy to help adult learners. ProLiteracy works with our members and partners, and the adult learners we serve, along with local, national, and international organizations. ProLiteracy helps build the capacity and quality of programs that are teaching adults by: ? Advocating for public policies and legislation that benefit adult learners and the people and programs that serve them. ? Providing professional development and training, technical assistance, publications, online resources, and credentialing services for program directors, instructors, trainers, and volunteer tutors working with adult learners in the U.S. ? Working internationally with existing nongovernmental agencies to create programs that combine native language literacy lessons with community projects related to the environment, economic self-sufficiency, education, health, family literacy, and peace/conflict resolution. ? Publishing educational materials that address the learning needs and difficulties of adult learners and of youths in grades 6-10. ProLiteracy produces the only weekly news source written in plain English. ? Sponsoring an biennial conference. ProLiteracy is the result of the 2002 merger of Laubach Literacy International and Literacy Volunteers of America.

Well-trained teachers and tutors are central to the success of an adult learner. For over 60 years, we have worked to make adult literacy programs stronger. Last year we continued that work by training 767 adult literacy professionals like Laura Martinez who works in the Sacramento Public Library's adult literacy services. ???? Report from the field: While in Egypt, our Sr. International Programs Officer Alesha Anderson visited some of the literacy classes we are facilitating with our longtime partner ANBA. Now in its second year, the Feeding Minds Youth Literacy/3al Asl Tawar program, funded by KFC and Yum! brands, is serving 304 youth and young adults ages 13–35. Improving literacy here is crucial to building a foundation for ongoing youth education and a sustainable community.

?? Report from the Field: This week, our Sr. International Programs Officer Alesha Anderson is visiting our partner program ANBA in Cairo, Egypt. Together we are working with ANBA to implement the Feeding Minds Youth Literacy Program/3al Asl Tawar, funded by KFC and Yum! brands, to develop “true originals” by offering literacy training to youth and young adults. Yesterday, Alesha took part in soft skills professional development for the initiative’s student ambassadors and teachers. Ambassadors and teachers are critical to the program advocating for student involvement. Thank you to Americana Foods Americana Foods, KFC, and Yum! for organizing this day! ?? Did you know? ProLiteracy’s co-founder Dr. Frank C. Laubach began working in Egypt in 1947 when he met with King Farouk. Today we continue this work in Egypt to create more sustainable communities through literacy.
