Breaking the silence on gendered online abuse against women in politics is crucial for a healthy democracy. Female politicians confront a disproportionate amount of online harassment and disinformation, discouraging them from running for office and hampering their effectiveness. Social media companies must ramp up transparency and accountability to combat this toxic environment. Government action, such as Biden's proposed National Task Force and the EU's Digital Services Act, is vital for developing regulatory frameworks that protect women political leaders from online abuse. Let's work together to defend women's rights and ensure a safe online space for all political voices. #WomenInPolitics #OnlineAbuse #GenderEquality
Join us in advocating for a more respectful and humane political discourse both online and offline. Attention LDS women! Online attacks against female candidates persist, with 30.76% of tweets containing hostility, including misogynistic, degrading, and intellectual discrediting remarks. Insults like "crazy," "uncontrolled," and "fat" aim to discourage women from political participation. This pattern of violence undermines the legitimacy of women in politics and creates a hostile environment. We must stand against this and empower women to engage in political discourse without fear. Let's support each other and uplift our voices for positive change. #EmpowerWomen #EndOnlineViolence
Read the full report for more insights on the challenges women face in politics and how we can overcome them. Attention LDS women considering public service: After the 2016 election, 309 women have filed to run for the House of Representatives. However, they will inevitably face sexism. Research by leading strategist Celinda Lake suggests that speaking out against sexism, tying it to broader issues, and showing strength can boost a female candidate's ratings. Republican strategists understand this too, as evidenced in past campaigns. Speaking out may be uncomfortable, but it's necessary and can lead to real change and electoral success. #WomenInPolitics #SpeakOutAgainstSexism
Source:

?? Attention campaigns! A recent report by the Center for American Women and Politics reveals a surprising trend: women outnumber men as small-dollar contributors to Democratic congressional candidates in 10 key states. This is a bright spot, showing women's engagement as donors and their involvement at this level. However, women still remain underrepresented as large donors, and the analysis highlights disparities among different racial and ethnic groups of women. It's crucial to consider these findings and work towards mobilizing more diverse women donors.
