A nonprofit applying machine learning & robotics to listen to & translate the communication of whales in Dominica.
关于我们
Project CETI is a nonprofit, interdisciplinary scientific and conservation initiative on a mission to listen to and translate the communication of sperm whales off the island of Dominica in the Eastern Caribbean. For the first time in history, advances in technology have made it possible to understand the communication of animals. We at CETI are unified by the shared goal of applying technology to amplify the magic of our natural world. Our science team is made up of the world’s leading artificial intelligence and natural language processing experts, cryptographers, linguists, marine biologists, roboticists and underwater acousticians from a network of over 15 universities and other partners.

Continuing our #CETIScientists series, we are honored to highlight Alyssa Hernandez, a CETI Robotics Team member???? Alyssa is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences in the Harvard Microrobotics Laboratory. Her research is at the interface of biology and robotics, drawing inspiration specifically from the adhesive discs of fish to construct durable and gentle suction cups for CETI’s sperm whale research- see CETI’s most recent paper: https://lnkd.in/ejtH5gMw Alyssa received a PhD from Harvard University in Organismic and Evolutionary Biology, and her research focused on plant-insect interactions and adaptive functional morphologies utilized for attachment. This interest in the adhesive systems seen in nature motivates her current work, and her interdisciplinary background allows her to leverage multiple fields (ecology, evolutionary biology, and engineering) for bioinspiration. In addition to her scientific achievements, Alyssa is an active member of the STEM community at Harvard; having served as a board member for several graduate student groups. In addition to these leadership positions, she was also a Graduate Mentor for Harvard College’s Women in STEM (WiSTEM) program, receiving Mentor of the Year in 2018.
